I'm baaaaack...

 sort of.

Our internet has been off for close to two days.   Frontier (an incompetent bunch of yahoos) took over Verizon and it's been one thing after another.  We may have to find an alternative.

I have out-of-town guests arriving very early Friday so posting will light to non-existence.  Think of this as a wee booger blogger break.

We pickied up one of these at Costco for the "guest" room, which is really my office.  Color us beyond impressed.

AeroBed Comfort Anywhere 18" Air Mattress with Headboard Design Powerful Built in Ac Pump for Convenient, Super Fast Inflation

They aren't kidding about the fast inflation.  It took about two minutes to inflate the whole bed and it is super comfortable.

If I don't make it back, have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Eat lots of hot dogs, drink a few brews, and come back ready to do battle.  The time leading up to next November will be the hardest and busiest of our lives doing battle with the commies, Marxists, socialists, assorted flotsam and jetsam, and all manner of despicable prevaricators.

God bless all my readers (even grudgingly my trolls.)

How dare these beautiful children and their parents want something better for themselves...

against the wishes of the teacher's union.

From the MacIver Institute:
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program, and the students and staff at Messmer Preparatory Catholic School were all targets of an obnoxious protest on Friday, August 26, 2011.

From this report by the MacIver News Service, it is clear the protesters (Union members, socialists, MPS officals, liberal activists) could learn a lot by emulating the behavior of the children inside the school.
The behavior of these protesters is repulsive.  However, the sight of all those beautiful children was a breath of fresh air.  Our government-run schools, warehouses for the uncouth, unkempt, and uneducated, could learn something from the Messmer Preparatory School.

It's Monday...

and I'm going to Costco.

Last night hubby and I watched the three Bill Whittle videos that I posted yesterday It was really the first time we had heard him speak at length and both hubby and I were completely blown away.  I urge you to take the time  and watch those videos.  Have the young people in your home watch with you.  I'm certain you will be as impressed as we were.

Quin Hillyer garners the coveted Quote of the Day Award:

From his article:

If Only Obama Would Abdicate

"This boringly ineffective would-be demagogue in the Oval Office keeps trotting out the same tired, petty, counterfactual lines in every one of his pompous, detached-from-reality speeches -- and he did so again in his Saturday radio address. So shopworn is his refrain, and so counterproductive are his policies (both enacted and proposed), that the markets tank just about every time he opens his mouth, and the economy suffers with each minute he continues to occupy the White House. His resignation from office, in abject embarrassment at his failures, would be a great first step toward economic recovery, not to mention a balm to the souls of tens of millions of Americans sick of his condescension, his prevarications, and his incompetence."  read the rest - it only gets better
 Agenda 21

While Obama and the first woman sup on lobster and arugula, take trips to the beach in 24 vehicle motorcades, and hobnob with the hoi-polloi, we in flyover country are being systematically deprived of our land and our freedom.

I've been following Agenda 21 for several years and have witnessed it's pernicious creep into our everyday life under the guise of "making life better for us" because we're too stupid to manage on our own.   It promises open green space, clean air, and a dolly for every child.  It's the ultimate weapon of the loony left to control us.

Today, Trevor Louden, at New Zeal, has another comprehensive article on Agenda 21 developments.

Obama’s Takeover of Rural America – Vetting Obama
Give him an inch and he’ll take a mile… 95% of America’s land area to be exact – rural America.
You might be thinking this doesn’t affect you because you don’t live in ‘rural America,’ but think again because the agenda in play is to eliminate all property rights in the U.S.
The first order of business is to drive out the 16% of our population who currently live and work in rural America. The final steps to implement the “Agenda for the 21st Century” have begun.
Decades in the making (long before Obama became President), the framework was slowly integrated into the U.S. all the way down to the local level in the form of environmental programs (e.g. Sustainable Development, Smart Growth). With Obama in office, the race to the finish line has begun with a President whose stated goal is “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”
Obama’s administration has initiated the final phase through Executive Order (EO) 13575 and new oppressive regulations. Here’s a taste of the first steps of Obama’s takeover…   read the entire article

Archbishop Chaput speaks out about the MSM...

he's not a fan.

Speaking at World Youth Day in Madrid, Archbishop Chaput said, The news outlets CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, and MSNBC do not “provide trustworthy information about religious faith.”
Chaput told the audience that, “In the United States, our battles over abortion, family life, same-sex ‘marriage,’ and other sensitive issues have led to ferocious public smears and legal threats not only against Catholics, but also against Mormons, evangelicals, and other religious believers.”

“And with relatively few exceptions,” he said, “the mass media tend to cover these disputed issues with a combination of ignorance, laziness, and bias against traditional Christian belief.”
The Archbishop continued: “We make a very serious mistake if we rely on media like the New York Times, Newsweek, CNN, or MSNBC for reliable news about religion. These news media simply don’t provide trustworthy information about religious faith -- and sometimes they can’t provide it, either because of limited resources or because of their own editorial prejudices.”
“These are secular operations focused on making a profit,” he said.  “They have very little sympathy for the Catholic faith, and quite a lot of aggressive skepticism toward any religious community that claims to preach and teach God’s truth.”

Obama’s Amerika: Inciting A Race & Class War To Achieve Dictatorship from Sword at the Ready?

[...]"Given the lessons of history, it is clear to this author that America is being forced marched into a Marxist tyranny by the Obama regime and his party.  The key aspect of it’s insidiousness has now arisen exactly as I just outlined from the historical record; the demonization of their political enemies so as to incite violence against the white, middle class/rich that Obama and his Democrat Socialists, race and poverty pimps have declared the “enemy”."  read it all

H/T to Green Mountains Home who had this to add:

...Read the ENTIRE article. Follow all the links. Hope to GOD this is all not true. But you owe it to those you love to educate yourself, even if those loved ones don't want to hear about it.

I believe events are happening just as Sword at the Ready has described them.  The difference is in the mindset of the people.  After 1776, U.S. citizens never experienced life under a king or any kind of dictatorship. The current response to recent events has been the rise of the Tea Party - a group of awakened patriots.  I do believe we are headed for turbulent times and it would be wise to be prepared.  History does repeat itself because the nature of man is fundamentally the same and it is never a good idea to say "that couldn't happen here."

Some thoughts...

from one of my favorite blogger buddies, Blue.

One of my favorite things about Blue is his ability to say a lot with very few words.  With my Italian heritage, that has never been an option for me.  We talk, and talk, and talk, and then we talk some more.  And after that we talk even more. We are the Niagara Falls of talk.

Blue is different.  Except when he gets really frustrated.  And then he sounds like he might have a tad of Italian in him.

From Blue:

Random opinions on political things....

Rant on.

I think that most politicians are the same.  I think that most will do whatever is necessary to perpetuate their time in office.  They will lie, cheat, and steal to stay in office and collect their salary and benefits.  They've got a good thing going.   They will do anything to retain their entitlement status.  Do read the rest
God bless you, Blue...

Rick Perry...

our next president?

My prediction:

Perry will win the nomination and will win the presidential election.

In view of that, it would be good to read up on exactly who Rick Perry is.  One of my biggest problems with some bloggers is their willingness to pick up and repeat assertions made by some "high-end" bloggers.  I can remember years ago my dad saying when confronted with the facts of some subject, "I read it in the newspaper so it must be true."  This was after newspapers ceased having any journalistic ethics and started infusing "news" articles with personal opinion.

Now we have a high-end blogger we'll call "A" saying such-and-such about so-and-so.  Within hours, every blog out there is repeating some nonsense when a cursory bit of research would have proven it wrong. Rarely does blogger "A" correct or amend what they have printed.  You see, for some, it is all about the hit counter and they've moved on to bigger and better articles, flinging about whatever they think will boost readership.

Recently, one of those bloggers, with not one bit of background in constitutional law, argued and instructed on the Constitution as pertaining to the "Super Congress."  He was dead wrong on many points and also offered no reliable citations - actually he offered no citations at all, but his readership lapped it all up and considered themselves wiser for the encounter.  This would not have occurred if blogger "A" had made it clear that what he had written was his opinion and not necessarily fact.

We are all entitled to our opinions.  The good Lord knows I have more than my fair share - on everything, and I'm more than willing to ram them down your throat share them with you.  It's the Italian in me.  My opening line every year when teaching religious education at our church was, "I will always tell you when something is my opinion and not church teaching."    I try to keep this rule when writing for this blog.

When one considers themselves to be a conservative, inherent in that approbation is the willingness to be a "thinker", not a "feeler."  If the left wants to operate on feelings, well - let them.  We have to "trust but verify."

Rick Perry

Which brings me to the point of this whole ramble.  A link to Pesky Truth provided by L.D. Jackson, a "thinker" and proprietor of the blog Political Realities, was illuminating.

From L.D. at Political Realities:
"As I said, the campaign to smear Rick Perry has been ongoing for several weeks/months. Claims of “he is gay” to claims that he has presided over far too many executions seem to be the norm in effort to make it appear the man from Texas is unfit to be President. I’ll be honest, I am leaning in favor of supporting him myself, although I have yet to finalize my decision. In light of that, I want to share a post from Pesky Truth, where you will find a well-researched post that addresses the negatives that have been circulating about Governor Perry."
From Pesky Truth:

Seventeen (17) things that critics are saying about Rick Perry
"Over the past couple of months Rick Perry has been considering a run for POTUS. As of Thursday, August 11, it looks like the decision has been made and he’s in.
Since he’s been Governor of Texas for over ten years, folks from the other “56 states” are asking Texans what kind of governor he’s been and what we think. I decided that what I “think” isn’t good enough – I could be wrong. So, I decided to do some research on Perry’s record and form a more accurate, fact-based opinion on his qualifications instead of relying on my general perceptions." take the time to read the rest
 and also from Pesky Truth:

Want to know more about Rick Perry?

To prove Pesky Truth's assertions we bring you Paul Begala, at the Daily Beast with his opinion hit piece of Rick Perry:   Rick Perry's Ruthless Drive to Win.  Just about everything Mr. Begala says is carefully refuted with facts from Pesky Truth (IMO)

Tax the evil rich...

which, if you're having a conversation with a member of the loony left, does not include sport stars, the Hollywood elite, or the President of the United States.

Obama once said, in his best shuck and jive accent, he thought at some point "you've made enough money."  Really?  Well, the majority of the people of this country think you passed that point a long time ago.  You made 5 million dollars last year and yet the taxpayers are funding a huge portion of your elitist vacation in Martha's Vineyard and paying for you to ride around in a bus.  Riding around in a freaking bus? You weren't hired to ride around in a bus or to fly a gas guzzling airplane to give a speech in some obscure manufacturing plant in Holland, Michigan.

For all you loony left lurkers, how about some facts?  You know - those things like 2 + 2 = 4?  Take some time to read the impeccably researched article The Blog Prof has compiled just for you.

Why does CNN point out that majority want higher taxes on the rich, but don't point out that the majority pay no federal income taxes? And that bottom 40% actually get money back?

Obama's Legacy Revisited...

updated with new music due to some copyright problems on the first video.

H/T Maggie at her Notebook

"Twin Reduction" otherwise known as choosing to kill one baby over another...

horrendous.

I'm working on a post involving very young teenage girls who choose to become pregnant out-of-wedlock.  No, I'm not talking about inner-city disadvantaged kids getting pregnant to collect benefits or secure their own state funded (read taxpayer)  apartment.  I'm talking about average middle-class children, some as young as 13, deliberately becoming pregnant. The reason?  I have no idea, but I have a few suppositions that I will put forward for your consideration and input.

Until that post is finished, take a few minutes to read Sister Toldjah's article about "twin-reduction."  Read it and remember that our president is the most pro-death to ever be elected.  His first order of business (after signing an Executive Order to seal his records), was to rescind the Mexico City Policy, instituted by Ronald Reagan, thereby ensuring that our tax dollars could flow freely to other countries to provide abortions. This is also the president who referred to a baby as a "punishment" before his election.  And he's a president who wholeheartedly supports Planned Parenthood, whose primary function is to provide abortions and hand out birth control pills to girls as young as 13 without the consent or knowledge of their parents.

Obama is but a symptom of the amorality that is becoming rampant in our society, as well as other developed countries.  We've moved beyond immorality into the darkness of no morals at all, and the left rejoices. Packs of young people are burning and looting our cities and turning London into an inferno.  Young people in Greece, denied the benefits they think they deserve without doing anything to earn them, burn cars and trash buildings.

While the economy tanks, this president sees nothing weird about heading off to a swanky resort on Martha's Vineyard for a little R&R (costing taxpayers millions.) After all, like the youth in London and Greece, he "deserves" a vacation - never mind that he has done not one thing to earn it by normal people's standards.  Judging from what is going on in the world, our money, or lack thereof, will be the least of our worries when the whole thing collapses.  You best prepare.

“Twin reduction”: Our pro-death, vanity abortion culture in a nutshell
I’ve written about the issue of abortion at this blog many times; my opinions on it are crystal clear (if you’re a new reader, click here for an overall summary of my pro-life views and how I got there). So it goes without saying that I’ve read many, many studies, articles, interviews, documentaries, etc on the grotesque practice of the termination of unborn life and oftentimes walk away from the illuminating pieces of information absolutely disgusted with our “me first” “if it feels good do it” casual culture – a culture made fashionable in the 60s by “progressives” who took the women’s lib movement way too far to the point that not only was the institution of marriage and a stable two-parent family unit viewed as a symbol of the “repressed, subservient woman”, but also that the precious, fragile lives of the unborn were portrayed as a “burdensome inconvenience” for the “modern woman.” And as a result, she needed “legal options” to be able to take care of the so-called burden. read the rest - it's gut wrenching

Better enjoy now... look whats coming from Zero: Big rigs or semis will have to slash fuel consumption and production of heat-trapping gases by up to 23 percent. Gasoline-powered heavy-duty pickups and vans will have to cut consumption by 10 percent, or by 15 percent if the vehicles run on diesel fuel.

Dr. Milton R. Wolf on Obamacare...

My comments:

Why have we heard so little of Obamacare during all the debt "crisis" talk?  Lurking just around the corner is a debt bomb the size of New Hampshire that will be dropped on the country.

Over the last few days billions of dollars have been flushed down the toilet.  People's life savings have been decimated.  Obama's response?  A multi-million dollar vacay at Martha's Vineyard.

From Dr. Wolf:

Obamacare or America?
Liberals’ cruel, empty promises hurt rich and poor alike
[...]America is proving true the prophetic words of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” What America’s liberals do not understand is that there is one fate far more cruel than not receiving other people’s money: It is being falsely promised that you will receive other people’s money in the first place. It’s time politicians quit making promises they can’t keep with money they don’t have. It’s time we be honest about the severity of this patient’s condition. read the rest

Solutions from Sarah Palin...

which make sense.

Excerpt from Sarah Palin's Facebook page:

Conquering the Storm

First, we need to get serious about our deficit. No more accounting gimmicks. No more cuts in “out-years” that never materialize. The permanent political class in D.C. might be fooling themselves with these Enron-like accounting games, but they’re not fooling the world’s capital markets. And we don’t need any more happy talk from the White House about “investing” in solar shingles and really fast trains. The White House shouldn’t even bother floating these new spending programs. We can’t afford them. Period. We need to stop this deficit spending, balance our budget, repeal Obamacare, cancel all unused stimulus funds, and reform our entitlement programs. We have to have an adult conversation about our spending commitments; circumstances have changed, and we must adapt. I know none of this will be easy, but, “thick” or not, the average American outside the D.C. politico bubble knows that we no longer have a choice! We will have entitlement reform and a balanced budget; it’s just a matter of how. We can do it ourselves in a calm, methodical, and responsible manner, or we can wait for the world’s capital markets to ram it down on us. Let’s be responsible and do it ourselves. And let’s get serious about reducing the size of government across the board and rooting out waste. How many more reports (that today are destined to merely gather dust on the shelf) do we need about duplicative and unnecessary programs before we actually do something about government waste?

We need to get this economy moving again, and the real stimulus we’ve been waiting for is domestic energy development. We must reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil by responsibly developing natural resources here. This will provide good paying jobs, reduce our trade deficit, increase federal and state revenue, ensure environmental standards, and actually stimulate our economy without incurring any debt. That’s real stimulus! Affordable, plentiful, and secure energy is the foundation of every thriving economy. Let’s make it the foundation of ours. Let’s do the opposite of President Obama’s manipulation of U.S. energy supplies. Let’s drill here, build refineries, and stop kowtowing to foreign countries in asking them to ramp up energy production which makes us even more beholden to them as we rely on their foreign product. Let’s move on tapping our massive domestic natural gas reserves. Natural gas is the perfect “bridge fuel” to a future when more renewable sources are available. It’s clean, it’s green, and we’ve got a lot of it. Let’s drill. Let’s build an infrastructure for natural gas cars and power plants. Energy development can help kick start our economic engine.

In addition to energy security, I embrace a pro-growth agenda that can make American corporations far more competitive on the global stage. (I will be writing more about this in the coming days.) We need to tell the world, “America is open for business again!” And let’s welcome industry by reducing burdensome regulations. The Obama administration keeps strangling businesses in red tape. From the EPA’s rulings to that nightmare known as Obamacare, the Obama administration is hanging one regulatory albatross after another around the private sector’s neck. Let’s get government out of the way and give the private sector room to breathe, grow, and thrive. We can provide businesses confidence to expand and hire Americans in a stable environment.

President Barack Obama has approved $105 million for humanitarian efforts in the Horn of Africa to combat worsening drought and famine.

Really? Really????

People are starving in Africa.  They've been starving since I was a little girl (which is a long, long time ago.)  We've been sending aid for as long as I can remember and the the little children are still starving.  Where the hell is the money and aid going??

Now we're sending another 105 million.  For what?  To shore up some tin-pot dictator?  God has a special place to house folks that allow little children to starve.

Obama job approval rating lowest in Idaho over all other states...

there's a reason I live here.

via Weasel Zippers:    Gallup:  Obama Job Approval 50% or Higher in Only 16 States

It figures that my home state of Minnesota is one of only a few states that rank "above average" in their approval rank.   (No insult intended to my normal blogger buddies who live in Minnesota.)

Live feed of Obama from the White House at 1:00pm ET...

of course he'll be late.

Should we place bets on who he blames for the downgrade because we all certainly know it has nothing at all to do with him or his failed policies.

Did I mention that Obambi had time for golf on Sunday?

It's Monday...

and Obama hides.

He will, however, find time for a few fund raisers.

Breaking:  Obama to make a really stupid statement at 1 pm ET.

Did I mention he had time for a relaxing game of golf on Sunday?

If we have to tolerate this insanity we should at least do it with a full and happy tummy.  In that light, allow me to introduce you to the best grilled corn I've ever eaten.

A few weeks ago I ran into a recipe that called for soaking the corn in salt water before grilling.  Hmmmmmmm.  Maybe you guys have heard of that, but somehow that piece of info escaped my beady little eyes.  I did my usual careful research and combining all my new knowledge, this is what I came up with:

I stripped the outer husks of the corn down to the paler ones.  I left most the silk on as many sites promised it would pull right out after grilling (it did.)  I crammed it into a pot filled with cold water and a whole bunch of salt for several hours.  It fit snugly in the pot which kept it underwater so I didn't have to turn it.

I grilled my marinated pork chops first and popped them in the oven to keep warm and threw the corn on the grill.  With only a few turns and after about 10 minutes we pulled off the husks, brushed on melted butter and some Kosher salt and enjoyed the sweetest and juiciest corn we've ever eaten.

Next to try?

If you'd made it this far, may I recommend one of the best things I've read this morning?  Of course I can - it's my blog.

Some good advice from the combox...

The mysterious Bill Bannon left this comment in response to my shock and awe when I saw the balance of my Roth IRA.  Can't wait for "Black Monday"  /sarc

Bill bannon has left a new comment on your post "It's Friday...":

Adrienne,
If the market keeps going down, you can stop or slow your aggregate IRA from doing so by buying a short etf which will go up as the market goes down. Thursday my aggregate stayed put all day by doing so but you have to play with them tentatively at first to see their effect.....and you need to have free cash in the ira or sell some stock to get the freed up cash.
MWN does three times the inverse of mid cap stocks.
So $5,000 does the work of $15,000. If a person had 20k in the market, they could get a market neutral effect (staying put) by putting 15K in stock and 5k in MWN until the down trend is over. What is happening is that your stocks are going down while MWN is going up. And you're kind of staying even.
The risk is that on a great turn up in the market, you'll also be standing still until you sell MWN.
Research "inverse etf's". You buy them just like a stock. They can counter balance mutual funds also.
I took Bill's advice and researched "inverse etf's and, by golly, Bill is right.  I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Thanks, Bill...

Obama stoned in Chicago?...

sure looks that way to me.

From the Daley Gator:

Is It Just Me, Or Does Obama Look Stoned Off His Ass In This Video?

More Constitutional shredding...

a couple of constitutional lawyers explain it for us - and we thank them.

The Budget Control Act Of 2011 Violates Constitutional Order
In a Constitutional Republic of the sort that we thought we had, the process by which laws are made is at least as important as the laws that are enacted.  Our Constitution prescribes that law-making process in some detail, but those who voted for the "Budget Control Act of 2011" ("BCA 2011") were wholly unconcerned about trampling upon required constitutional processes on the way to the nirvana of "bi-partisan consensus "to avert a supposed crisis.  At least two titles of the bill now being rushed through Congress are unconstitutional.   read the rest

The rest of the week...

I expect my blogger buddies to keep up the good  work.

I have a large daylily sale scheduled for Saturday (and Sunday by appointment) and will be very busy. I have beds to mulch, much watering to do as the temps are high, mowing, weed whacking, weed pulling,  flyers to make and signs to make. Owning a plant nursery is not glamorous.  Most all days I work like a field hand for considerable less pay.  Wouldn't trade it for anything...

Last year a stroll at dawn...

lavender to harvest...

Some of the daylilies on end of season sale...

your eyes are ok - the picture is fuzzy.  Sorry...

All pictures from my nursery...
