Celebrating a birthday...

Today is the one day of the year that I get to do exactly what I want to do with a compliant and quiet husband following me around acting like he's having a really good time.

So what's the schedule today?
  1. Since I always lay out my shopping trips in order, today we will start at T.J Maxx followed by...
  2. Ross and then a few steps next door brings us to...
  3. Michaels followed by a quick trip across the street to...
  4. Macy's to buy my favorite perfume that I've worn for at least 40 years - Clinque Aromatics.  I will also pick up my favorite lipstick.  Then off to...
  5. Big Lot's which is right next to...
  6. Tuesday Morning, which is magically next to Tomato Street for lunch.
  7. Our after lunch coffee will be at Hasting's Book Store
Whew - I'm tired already.

My predictions of how the day will turn out based on previous year's experience:

We will return to the house with a car loaded with all sorts of strange and wonderful things - all purchased by my hubby.

He even remembered that Tuesday Morning was a "go-to" place today.  How weird is that???

As I said last year:
For all of my loyal readers and blogger buddies extraordinaire, I wish you a safe and fun New Year's Eve.  Each of you has brightened my life and inspired me to keep up the good fight for freedom.  May we all succeed beyond our wildest dreams in running the Marxists and Communists back into whatever hidey-hole they slithered from...

Would Bachmann actually do this?...

I believe she would.

From the Washington Times:

BACHMANN: Little time to save America
First focus will be economy, then national security and families
I have often been criticized for saying that I could turn around the U.S. economy in just a few short months. That is not blind optimism talking, but rather the realization that the biggest impediment to true economic recovery has been the signal President Obama’s policies have been sending to the key audience for recovery, the job creators. Should I be fortunate enough to be elected by the American people to serve as president of the United States, I will have an ambitious agenda in the first 100 days that will send a signal to our country’s job creators and to the world that the days of socialist policies are over, that our free market is once again open for business and that we will once again lead the world as the true exceptional nation.   read the rest

Unfortunately, as my trip to St. Paul so clearly pointed out, the self-identifying elitist and intellectually incurious people of Minnesota think Michele Bachmann is "stupid" - their favorite word.

You see for them, anyone who doesn't agree with their "bleeding heart liberal" (I'm quoting a St. Paul shop-keeper) agenda is a racist, homophobic, mean, and very stupid person.

Remember, these are the people that elected Jesse Ventura, Keith Ellison, and Mark Dayton.  Need I say more?

This made my day...

Blogger interviews...

coming to you in the New Year.

I received many requests for interviews and have carefully noted them and will be getting in touch with each and everyone of you.  In the meantime, I'm reading up on interviewing techniques and have decided that a written format with a follow up phone call is the best way to accomplish my goal.

My husband, a veteran at both being interviewed and doing interviews, will be a big help.  My own recent interview with veteran journalist and author, Martin Gelin, has also given me some insights on the interview process.

I hope my readers will share my enthusiasm for getting to know some of the bloggers in a more personal way.  We come from diverse backgrounds, religions, parts of the world, and yet share some common goals.

If you have ideas of what you would want to know about a blogger (aside from his debit card number and PIN - heh), let me know in the combox.

To make life easy on myself (a noble goal), my first interview will be with the brilliant Mark (of Spokane) who blogs at  Ordered Liberty Libertas et Memoria (he doesn't know this yet so don't tell him.)

The Twelve Days of Christmas

For many Christians, Christmas ends when the gift wrap paper is loaded in the recycle bin.  For others it is the beginning of The Twelve Days of Christmas culminating on the feast of the Epiphany on January 6th.   Our more modestly sized tree this year will remain up until Jan. 7th.   NB:  Frankie at front door on guard duty.  So far no alien invaders have breached our fortress so he's doing a mighty fine job.

I'm still here...

and I've decided I will probably live to tell the tale of the liberal state of Minnesota (from which I escaped by leaving a trail of corn kernels next to the railroad tracks so my train could find it's way back to Idaho.)

While there are some very lovely people living in Minnesota, the vast majority of them in the Twin Cities are so liberal they would have to be regarded at best as Socialists, with many bordering on outright Communism.  I was also reminded that it is impossible to have a conversation or discussion with a far-left liberal.  If you ask a question they can't answer, usually the first one out of your mouth, the immediate response is always a forceful "I don't want to talk about it."   In all cases, the question asked was in response to something they brought up to begin with.  How weird is that?

I also noticed a lack of intellectual curiosity, due, I'm thinking, to their being over-amused by chic coffee houses, a surfeit of restaurants, and more shopping areas than any city really needs.  Their sole source of news seems to be the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Star-Trib in Minneapolis with their highly slanted far-left take on the issues.

Here's a typical exchange:

Friend:  "Did you see what Gingrich said that has everyone up in arms?

Me:  "You're probably referring to his statement about Palestinians being a "made-up" people."

Friend:  "I don't remember.  Let me find the newspaper article."

Digging through the recycling bag, a three-day old newspaper was produced.  The heading of the article was, "Gingrich Calls Palestinians a Made-Up People"  or something similar.  After a quick glance at the article heading I said in the very calmest voice I could conjure up:

Me:  "What is it about that statement you find so upsetting?"

Friend:  "I don't want to talk about it."  (Said with much force and anger.)

Not willing to give up quite yet, and with the best of intentions, I said in a happy and chirpy voice:

Me: "Have you read much Middle-Eastern history?  It's really quite fascinating."

Friend:  "I never read history.  I don't like history."

Me:  "Hmm, ok.  So - where should we go to lunch today?"

Aside from a few blogger buddies living in Minnesota, there is no earthly reason to return to that state, and I will not.  Pretty simple.

Another observation concerned the train ride to and from Minnesota.  Leaving from Spokane, the train was loaded with oil workers headed to Williston and Stanley in North Dakota.  I took the opportunity to talk with at least 10 or 15 of these men who were on my car.  Most were from Sandpoint, ID or Montana, and all but one or two had advanced college degrees.  Rather than collect unemployment, food stamps, or welfare of any type, they instead were willing to leave their families for a month at a time to work in some capacity in North Dakota.

On my return ride leaving from St. Paul, I was only able to identify one oil worker on the train.   He was a young fellow from Ohio who was stockpiling his earnings in order to pay for his college education.  He figured in two years he would have well over 150K in the bank.

When we reached North Dakota, the train once again filled up with not only oil workers, but many who were working in peripheral businesses, headed back west on their monthly or bi-monthly furlough.  One enterprising young lady was running a catering company that provided food for many of the oil workers, and was heading back to Missoula, MT for the first time in several months.

So why wasn't the train loaded with Minnesota men heading to the oil fields?  I mulled the question over for a few days, and the only conclusion I could come to was the fact that Minnesota is one of the highest paying welfare states in the country.  Was it just easier to sit around and collect welfare than it was to head to North Dakota?  Maybe - maybe not.  But it does give us something to ponder.

I will never step foot in the state of Minnesota again.  Not ever.  Not for any reason.

I'm going away...

and I'll miss you all.

No, no, no - not forever.   Just a week or so.

I'm getting on one of these (see pic below) where I'll be locked up for 27 hours scooting across the country.  Hope it stays on the tracks.

Since I don't have a "smart phone", a laptop, an iPad or any other fancy communication devices, I'll be blissfully out of touch (at least until I reach my destination which is supplied with all of the above.)

You must realize that this messes up my Christmas card sending since it was a rather spur-of-the moment trip.  Soooooooo - I came up with a better idea.  Listen up....

I've been wanting to begin a weekly feature interviewing fellow bloggers, and this will be a great time to start.  Instead of receiving a Christmas card (that you'll end up throwing in the trash), I decided, for those who are interested (and who wouldn't be?), to call any blogger that might like to have an up close and personal Christmas greeting.  If you would also like to be interviewed, all the better.

I know some of you are thinking, "No big whoop, I'd rather have a check or a box of chocolates", and that's okay.  Some days I don't want to talk to myself either, and I would never turn down chocolate.  On the other hand, most of the folks who come here (except for my vile troll who will most assuredly not get a phone call unless it's from the police) are people I would love to talk to.

Anyone who would like a personal call or be interviewed, email me at:

adrienne at icehouse dot net

When I return, I will email you and set up a convenient time to call.  This includes the expats (I know who you are).

While I'm gone, all of you will hopefully behave yourselves like the ladies and gentlemen I know you are.  Okay, that's a bit of a stretch, but you guys can at least pretend, yes?

A Crisis of Truth...

is infecting Christians of all churches.

If this is allowed to happen to Catholics, it will happen to all Christians.  In fact - it's well underway.  Pay attention...

Pearl Harbor Day...

it could never happen again.

We say that about many things in history.  The fact is, it can and probably will.  I foresee a major war breaking out next year and the left hopes it will sweep Obama back into office.

And if you think the "occupiers" are done and gone just wait till next summer.   They'll be back with a vengeance and will turn the cities into battlegrounds.

This is not just a Catholic issue...

it has infected almost all the Christian churches.

I spent nine years as a religious education teacher of kids from 7th through 12th grade.  It was a constant battle with the "happy clappy" Catholics who only wanted the kids to have "fun', as though learning about the faith was a drag and a bore.

They "so wanted the kids to know Jesus" and when I suggested that perhaps teaching them about the Church Christ founded might be a good place to start, they would look at me like I was speaking Chinese.

You can witness this phenomenon in the Protestant mega-churches that preach a gospel of prosperity liberally sprinkled with a New Age brand of feel-goodism.  They don't want to talk about anything as uncomfortable as sin or hell, and they assure the congregation that everyone will be saved.  Heaven must be getting pretty darn crowded by now.

Listen up folks - these churches, under the guise of "social justice", are preaching a form of socialism.  When the infiltrators are done with their work, the Christian faith will be relegated to people's basements and celebrated in private.

You don't have to be Catholic to understand what Michael Voris is saying in this video.  If you are Catholic and take offense, well that's just too bad.  I agree with Michael, "sometimes you just don't know what you don't know."

Maggie agrees with me...

and I'm honored.

My opinion of the Trump debate.

and

From Maggie's Notebook:

Trump Debate a Joke? A Reality Show? Beneath Office of President?
I don’t think so. Last night on the Fox Panel, Donald Trump was roundly flogged for moderating a debate with GOP Presidential candidates. The complaints were that Trump might still run himself, Trump is not a journalist, a Trump debate is nothing more than a reality show, it’s a joke and beneath the office of the Presidency (that from Ron Paul). Charles Krauthammer joined in and agreed. Karl Rove has expressed similar opinions. Krauthammer, Rove and other elitists need to get over themselves. True Conservative members of any Tea Party can do as well as any “journalist,” and a Trump debate isn’t a reality show until it’s over and the audience decides it is a joke.   read the rest and watch the video

The resemblance is uncanny...

no comment.

The only difference is the hamster is really, really cute.

H/T to Math Mom, frequent commenter on MOTUS

Ann Barnhardt speaks out about Jon Corzine...

truth to power.
Corzine is supposed to testify before the Senate Ag Committee this week. If he shows up, he will do two things: he will plead the Fifth and/or he will lie. We all need to get our heads around the fact that OATHS mean absolutely NOTHING to these psychopaths. Lying is intrinsic to their psychological comportment. They view lying as every bit as essential to day-to-day functioning as breathing and eating. When psychologically normal people lie, we feel a sharp pain in both our minds and bodies. I feel a tightness in my solar plexis and a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

"Mmmm. Yes, I loved your beet and cottage cheese casserole with Velveeta sauce. Seconds? Why sure!"

Corzine and other psychopaths like him, such as Eric Holder, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and all the rest, feel nothing when they lie and thus do it almost constantly. Oaths are something that they laugh at as the domain of stupid religious rednecks. If we don't acknowledge this plain, obvious truth and stop treating these people as if they are psychologically normal and honorable and presuming that they are honest and bound by any oath, then they will destroy all of us with their lies and deceit. So when we watch Corzine "testify" before the Senate committee, we MUST be wise enough and discerning enough to KNOW that he is lying every single time he says, "I don't recall," or "I had no knowledge of that."  source

The contrast is staggering...

between today and a time some of us still remember.

Phoebe, over in her Detention Room, posted:

Heartwarming story of survival, 17 children 1920′s
“I have brought them up to the idea that honesty is the best policy, and that only criminals refuse to work,” Alice told Buxton. “All the children at home have their work to do, and they take pride in doing that work well.”
When I grew up in Maine, it was nothing to have large families in your community, they all were hard workers and managed to support their children for the most part.
When times were harder for the families, the Churches, neighbors and local town welfare offices helped them but only as a supplement to their paycheck, to this day Maine is one of the few states that has town welfare offices.  I miss that lifestyle, where everyone knew each other and neighbors helped neighbors.  read the rest

Now contrast that with a story I read today: 10 Ways the Recession Has Made My Family More Self-Sufficient

It was a simple article relating how a family saves a bit of money.  Half of the comments were insulting and made fun of these folks for actually doing things like having chickens and growing a garden.

A sampling of some of the dumbest comments:
Dumb F--- article. Stupid Adivce. You have got to be kidding me.

I love the last one.  Growing a garden, having a couple of chickens, and cooking from scratch makes you a dirty hippy?  No, you fool.  The dirty hippies are all occupying somewhere and wanting someone else to provide for them.

Minnesota Child Care Rally Today at Noon...

Governor Mark Dayton is attempting to pay off his union buddies by unionizing all childcare workers.  The end result will be one of three things happening.  read the rest if you missed it

What happened today:

From Minnesota Majority:

Temporary Restraining Order Granted
Ramsey County District Court Judge Dale Lindman today granted a temporary restraining order blocking a vote ordered by Governor Dayton to unionize the state’s home-based childcare providers (docket number 62-CV-11-9535). A group of childcare providers sued for an injunction contending that the vote is unfair and unlawful.

The restraining order will halt the planned mailing of union ballots to approximately 4,300 childcare providers deemed by the governor to be eligible until an injunction hearing can be conducted on January 17th, 2012.  read the rest and consider making a small donation -  I've already made mine.

Obama: Fair play and doing your fair share...

NB:  you have to do your fair share - he just has to vacay in Hawaii for 17 days.

I don't like starting my week out by reading something as pathetically disgusting as the following article from the Daily Caller telling us about the new and improved campaign strategy of Obama.  Are people still fooled by this SCoaMF??  Really?
The White House is highlighting a new theme for the 2012 election this week by holding a meeting with university leaders on Monday, giving a speech in Kansas on Tuesday and by lobbying to win a high-stakes Senate vote on Thursday.
President Barack Obama’s Kansas speech will show “his vision of an America where everyone engages in fair play, does their fair share and gets a fair shot,” Josh Earnest, Obama’s principal deputy press secretary, said in a Sunday press briefing.

The new slogan sidelines older themes, including “we can’t wait” and “pass this bill,” but it allows Obama to portray himself on the campaign trail as the progressive solution to the current economic paralysis.  read the rest
*   *   *
And yesterday being Sunday, I refused to get too upset by this article by Micheal Barone, who claims to be conservative and fancies himself some sort of intellectual. But now it's Monday, and I'm mad as hell!
[...]Here are a couple of things to keep in mind about Newt Gingrich, as he leads in polls for the Republican presidential nomination nationally and in Iowa and South Carolina and may be threatening Mitt Romney's lead in New Hampshire. One is that he is an autodidact. A second is that he is has incredible perseverance
Autodidact is a fancy word for someone who is self-taught.  Gingrich calls himself a historian and says his worldview was shaped at age 15 by viewing the bones at the ossuary at Verdun, site of the World War I battle. And he did earn a Ph.D. in history in 1971, with a dissertation on "Belgian Education Policy in the Congo: 1945-1960."
Calls himself a historian, Michael?  I believe he has a Ph.D in history.  Where's your Ph.D from?  Oh, right - you don't have one.  And thank you for explaining to the great unwashed what an autodidact is.  I would have more interests in the opinions of an autodidact than a fool who has been fed un-American trash and outright Marxism in some sheltered university setting.
[...]But he hasn't pursued that or any other subject with scholarly rigor. Instead, in his voluminous writings and unusually lengthy speeches you will find references to the futurist Alvin Tofler, to Olympic beach volleyball, to zoos and space exploration. You'll find management book lingo, salesmanship tips, offbeat and sometimes revealing facts and anecdotes.  read it all if you really want to
And your point, Michael?  A true intellectual searches out truth, no matter how unlikely the source.  Want to meet the least intellectual people on the face of the earth?  Visit a university and talk to most any professor who lives in a cocoon of snobbery, shielded from the real world, sneeringly spouting off lefty nonsense.  I'd trust the opinions of an autodidact way before someone who has spent his life soaking up the kind of Marxist swill slopped out in the average university.

Why not Trump?

Speaking of autodidacts, the snobs of the world are all up in arms over the prospect of Donald Trump moderating a Republican debate.  Why not Donald Trump?  We're supposed to consider Wolf Blitzer or Bret Baier more serious?  The Republican contenders for the nomination have put themselves in one debate after another moderated by lefty morons whose sole purpose has been to sandbag them and make them look stupid.  In many cases they succeeded quite well.

Trump fires back:

*  *  *  *

James Lewis, at American Thinker, makes this rather bold statement:

Why Gingrich Will Do
Yes, he's imperfect.  Who's not?

But compare Gingrich to Obama.  G has a Ph.D. in history (something the leftist media always forgets to tell us) and has written 20 books, some of them good ones, all expressing a deep understanding of the unique American experiment and the U.S. Constitution.

Obama thinks the Constitution is some kind of white imperialist plot designed to keep the victims of the world down and oppressed.  That's why he did those deep bows to medieval tyrants like President Hu (the terror-master of Tibet), the figurehead emperor of Japan, and the desert-king of Arabia, King Abdullah of the house of Saud.  No American president in history -- ever -- has physically and symbolically bowed down to medieval tyrants.  Never.  read the rest

Whatever happened to duty?...

good question.

Reflection on Duty

I just read an article in Chronicles, one of my favorite magazines, and was shocked by it because of the audience the author was addressing. I'm not easily shocked I might add. But Jeff Minick described teaching a seminar for homeschoolers on the Civil War. They were discussing Robert E. Lee and he brought up Lee's commitment to duty. "For Lee duty was a sort of eighth virtue," he told the young people.  read the rest

Minnesota Child Care Rally Today at Noon...

Govonor Mark Dayton is attempting to pay off his union buddies by unionizing all childcare workers.  The end result will be one of three things happening.
  • The childcare provider will make less money
  • The person seeking childcare will pay more money
  • The state will spend more money in childcare subsidies
The one thing you can be absolutely one hundred percent sure of is that the union bosses will fill their coffers with more money extorted from hard-working people, and will in turn fill the coffers of the Democratic machine in Minnesota.

Governor Dayton issued an executive order on November 15 ordering a unionization vote even though he has no legal authority to do so.  Not only that, but only providers that accept children receiving state subsidies will be allowed to vote, even though the decision to unionize will affect all Minnesota daycare providers.
This move will affect parents as well.  Childcare costs have increased an average of 35% in other states that have unionized independent childcare providers.
Greedy union bosses want to skim union dues from taxpayer-funded subsidies designed to help poor parents pay for childcare services.  And childcare providers are just the beginning.  In other states, family members caring for relatives with disabilities have also been forced to join a union.
In-home childcare providers are independent small business owners and are therefore not subject to collective bargaining arrangements.  But that hasn’t stopped Governor Dayton and his union allies from trying to muscle into their businesses.  Recent polls show that 68% of Minnesotans OPPOSE the unionization of childcare providers, but Governor Dayton does not appear to be listening.

I'm on the cutting edge...

kitteh's rule!

Ginger White and Kimberly Vay lesbian lovers?... w/Update

that would be a big no.

Trust, but verify!

Not too long ago a lady by the name of Laura Reddy of ABC news published an article that included a sentence that no writer worth his/her salt should ever have written.  Due to really crappy writing, it gave some people the idea that Ms. White and Ms. Vay had engaged in a 13 year lesbian affair.  If you had read the article in context, you would have never walked away with that conclusion.

Subsequently, the original article at ABC was changed to more accurately reflect what the author was trying to say.  No where in the re-written article was there any indication that anything had been changed.  That is not only dishonest but really sloppy "journalism."

New and "improved" version:

The female bodybuilder who once ran a bicycle business with latest Herman Cain accuser Ginger White says the Atlanta woman never mentioned the Republican presidential candidate, who she says was her lover for 13 years.
"His name has never come up," said Kimberly Vay, who told ABC News that she and White were former business partners. link
But in the meantime, numerous sites (mostly conservative) picked up this slanderous meme and it just kept getting lathered, rinsed, and repeated.

Several of these sites have revised their articles to more accurately reflect the truth.  Most have not.  But the damage has been done.  And the biggest damage done is to the credibility of the  bloggers who didn't bother to "trust, but verify."

Update:
Saturday, December 3rd 7:30 PST

Allow me to clarify my statement about the two ladies in question not being lesbian lovers to read:  There is no credible source stating these ladies were lesbian lovers.   Until there is, we should not be reporting it as true.

It's Friday...

the sun is shining and I have lots to do.

Here's some things to keep you busy. Not one of them includes Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, or Occupy Wall Street.

Did I mention I'm taking a Photoshop class at North Idaho College?  I made a dog disappear from a photo last night.  Next up?  How about the face of Obummer on the ass end of a donkey??  Or perhaps Moochelle drowning in BBQ sauce?
