It really is booming up there, damn hard work the oilfield, but excellent pay. The hard work eliminates most liberals. Heh.

How about the peripheral jobs like waitressing and such? No doubt good money there, too

As a matter of fact there's usually good money in waitressing most anywhere.

I cocktailed all the way through college at high-end hotels and made more money than the majority of lawyers and businessmen I waited on.

People today are too proud to do jobs they perceive as being "below" them. I was raised to believe all work was good.

Yeah, but Williston is in North Dakota...and the uglier part too (if such a thing exists). Yes, I'm a state snob. I think you & I live in the prettiest states in the union, Adrienne. ;-)

I've got family back there, and they stay that North Dakota is booming like crazy, and not just oil field jobs, but all the support jobs as well. Professionals too -- doctors, lawyers, nurses, accountants, etc. And the state government is being smart too, making sure not to damage the business climate and not raising taxes like crazy.

North Dakota, land of opportunity!

Hmmm. Wonder if the wife could get used to North Dakota winters?

Sub - sure she could - she's young!

Ranter - if I was younger and in dire need of a job, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Live frugally, save your money, and 5 years later you're out of there...

Mark - I forgot you had relatives up there. Imagine a short-order cook getting $1500.00 per week. Sounds like the gold rush days...

There are mixed feelings about the economic growth in ND. I of course support the oil industry; however there is a growing concern in communities near the Bakken Oil Field that the growth is too fast and the communities cannot keep up. For many it's too much change in too little time for their taste. As for me, I'm all about economic prosperity.

The left hates it when we say "drill baby drill". They really need to wake up.
