A great find at Costco

I made my usual fast run through the book section of Costco, hoping against hope that they might, against all odds, have a copy of Woodrow Wilson and the Modern Roots of Liberalism (a very expensive book.)  No such luck.  But they did have A Patriot's History of the United States.

After plowing through about 100 pages since returning home, it is clear why Rush and Glenn recommend this book.

The Woodrow Wilson book in hardcover is $94.90 and the paperback is $30.17.   Ouch!   I checked our library when I was in there a few days ago and they have a copy, but now it appears to have disappeared from their catalog. I'll hop on the phone tomorrow and find out where that pesky Wilson guy is hiding.

Good Grief...

Cranky Computer

My computer has been rather cranky the past few days.  I'm sure it's Bush's fault.  I finally cleaned the cache, deleted emails, ran the clean-up program plus PC Pitstop, and de-fragged.  It seems a bit happier now.  That's about the limits of my computer expertise.

My post on Draw Mohammad Day had some insightful comments that I wasn't able to post a reply to, and I apologize.  I'm going to go back and re-read them and pull out the highlights for a post.

In Case you Missed It:

Does Obama Want to Destroy America?  Yes, But...  by Warner Todd Huston, really sums up beautifully many of the things I've been saying.  In order to understand what is going on you must first start thinking like a typical liberal, which is really not thinking at all.  My husband always says, "liberals are people who haven't thought things through."  How true!

Of course, we're only talking about the garden variety "loose on the streets" liberal.  There's much more to what's going on than some dim-witted politicians not kissing us first (if you know what I mean!)  No siree - just keep digging around, read your history (a bit of time spent on Woodrow Wilson would be a good start), and a fuller and more colorful picture will begin to emerge.

How about this little tidbit from the Cato Institute?...
Costly IRS Mandate Slipped into Health Bill
Most people know about the individual mandate in the new health care bill, but the bill contained another mandate that could be far more costly.
A few wording changes to the tax code’s section 6041 regarding 1099 reporting were slipped into the 2000-page health legislation. The changes will force millions of businesses to issue hundreds of millions, perhaps billions, of additional IRS Form 1099s every year. It appears to be a costly, anti-business nightmare.
Even with my computer hiccupping along the past few days, I still managed to read Old Bob's posts Letter to a High-school Girl (all four parts.)   A friend's high school age daughter asks Bob to tell her about his experiences of the 1960's.

Since Bob and I are about the same age, it was refreshing to read a trek through the 60's that almost mirrored mine.  Those of us who grew up mainly in the 50's are really the last to have lived in a time that was relatively sane.  I believe that many of us who are 65 or over, view today's world with a much more profound sadness than younger people are able to.  We were witnesses, and in some cases willing participants, in turning society upside down and inside out.

Take a few moments and read his fine posts.  Here's the link to the first letter.  When you've finished glance over to your left and you will find the other letters in his archive.

Quotes of the Day:
I’m sick and tired of Obama and the White House coming out with yet another new crisis that has to be fixed by government sticking it to the people and taking more of what we earn and produce. Instead of allowing our small businesses especially to keep what we earn… But see, to many in the White House including our own president, I don’t know when they’ve run a business. I don’t know when they’ve been a CEO where they had to look out for the bottom line and they had to make payroll and live within their own means with a budget. They’re from government. They’re community organizers. They’ve been spending other people’s money for so long that the free enterprise principles that all of us believe in, it’s all foreign to them.  Sarah Palin on the Sean Hannity program 4/27/2010

Ann Althouse is right, except her reasoning is completely wrong

Ann Althouse just posted "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day is Not a Good Idea."  Her contention is that it "hurts" all those "everyday, just trying to get along Muslims (my term)"

  Ann says:
"But depictions of Muhammad offend millions of Muslims who are no part of the violent threats. In pushing back some people, you also hurt a lot of people who aren't doing anything (other than protecting their own interests by declining to pressure the extremists who are hurting the reputation of their religion)."
Really, Ann?  Just exactly how are we "hurting" them?  Is it really going to change their lives one teeny tiny bit if someone draws a picture of Mohammed?   And as for the offending bit - I'm so tired of folks that are offended by anything and everything. You know what?  They offend me by their constantly taking offense.

As for those millions of Muslims who are not part of the violent threats?  I haven't exactly been bowled over by their denouncing their violent brethren.  No siree,  the voices of the "moderate" Muslims are pretty quiet. Even when their brethren saw off people's heads, the silence is deafening.  Get real, Ann.  Muslims are not some happy clappy Protestant mega-church group of worshippers.  They are biblical descendants of violent, anti-Christian warriors who wish to rule the earth.  In their world it's Islam or death.

I do agree with Ann that the whole idea of  Draw Mohammed Day is not a good idea.  Here's why.  It's juvenile, petty, and a complete waste of time.  Instead of drawing Mohammed, how about doing some praying, or write a letter to your Senator or Congressman, or even take a nap?  Much better use of your time.

That's my two cents worth.  What's yours?

GM pays back loan with more government money while Obama enjoys a "middle class" vacation.

Is it just me or does Obama look extra special geeky while he is enjoying salty, high fat, and high calorie BBQ on his "middle class" vacation?  And how come our "elegant" first lady always has her mouth hanging open?  I won't draw your attention to her signature angry eyebrows - or maybe I will.

Forbes has the best explanation of how GM, despite operating in the red, has "paid back" its TARP money.  It's very much like paying off one credit card with another.  I watch very little TV, but last night Dateline lured me in with two true crime stories (I heart murder).  Anyhoo, I was treated to the ad last night and not wanting to be the only one to suffer (misery loves company, or something), I thought I'd share it with you.

Something Positive for Friday - In Praise of Large Families

My Aussie friend, Therese (a Mom to eight beautiful children), sent me this link to a wonderful article from Faith & Family by Simcha Fisher.  I'm sure some of the bloggers who have larger than average families, like Stacy McCain, the BlogProf,  and Sherry Antonetti, would be in complete agreement with this article.

Big Families Are the New Green
Reducing Your Carbon Footprint, One Baby at a Time

Got a big family? Then you already know that you’re crazy, a traitor to feminism, and a slave to the pope; you’re neglecting most of your kids and robbing the rest of their childhood; you’re a burden on the system in general, and you probably don’t own a television set.

But wait, there’s more! Don’t forget, you’re also destroying the earth.

Lately, it’s become fashionable for radical environmentalists to denounce large families as irresponsible, even selfish. Maybe you heard the remarks of the chairman of the U.K.’s Sustainable Development Commission, who said that, out of respect for the earth, couples should be legally limited to bearing two “replacement” children.  read the rest

I'm Shocked, I tell you. Absolutely Shocked!

This is ugly - very, very ugly.  And the MSM is just getting around to dropping this little bomb?   Is this not something that we have been saying since day one?  Isn't it??

From the AP:  Report: Health overhaul will increase nation's tab
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's health care overhaul law will increase the nation's health care tab instead of bringing costs down, government economic forecasters concluded Thursday in a sobering assessment of the sweeping legislation.
A report by economic experts at the Health and Human Services Department said the health care remake will achieve Obama's aim of expanding health insurance — adding 34 million Americans to the coverage rolls.
But the analysis also found that the law falls short of the president's twin goal of controlling runaway costs, raising projected spending by about 1 percent over 10 years. That increase could get bigger, however, since the report also warned that Medicare cuts in the law may be unrealistic and unsustainable, forcing lawmakers to roll them back. read the rest

Happy Earth Day All You Greenie Weenies

living in your houses made from trees that were cut down in the prime of life...

I witnessed recycling for the first time many years ago on a trip to Minnesota.  My ex-sister-in-law (a greenie-weenie teacher), was carefully sorting all her trash into colorful little bins on her back porch.  I thought it was one of the oddest things I had ever seen.  Nothing since then has happened to change my mind.  The only thing culled from  normal trash in our neck of the woods (North Idaho - home of many bitter-clingers), is cans of paint and such, which makes perfect sense.

I certainly hope the schools have lots of nice Earth Day celebrations planned, so the little children can get a head start on worshiping the creation instead of the Creator.

Here's how our current president celebrated Earth Day last year.

The Tea Party Movement: Not On Our Watch. Not Now, Not Ever

I've been thinking a great deal about the Tea Party movement lately, little wonder as April 15th just passed, marking its one year anniversary.  I'm so proud of my fellow countrymen and women that sometimes when I see you all gathered on the national mall, in Boston Common, or holding a flag or sign on any sidewalk across the nation I become quite choked up.  We, the people, are the spirit and soul of this nation, its foundation, and we have been called, yet again, to be its salvation.  Thank God we are up to the task.  you must read the rest...

Meet the People Who Will Make Your Health Care Decisions

The NYT ran a profile of the folks that will decide how this mess of a bill will be carried out.  Shouldn't that have been figured out before they passed this monstrosity?  Of course, since they didn't know what was in the bill, that would have been a bit hard.

Let's take a quick peek at one of the top three people, Phyllis Borzi, who will be masterminding the implementation of this piece of garbage.   That would be the same Phyllis Borzi who would like nothing better than to steal your 401K and force it into Treasuries to be paid as annuities.  This is nothing more than a way to prop up the failing treasury with your money.   Consider also the coming war against seniors in our country.  Deny them health care, they die, no more annuity.  Sounds pretty simple to me.

Check out what the LRC blog has to say about Phyllis and her merry band of crooked friends before you read the white-washed crap article in the Times.

From the NYT via Memeorandum:

Let me say this one more time;  this bill needs to be repealed and anyone running for any office, down to dog catcher, should aspire to that goal, and state it publicly. No statement - no vote.  Once more, simple rules!

It's Time to Do Something

Following everything going on in the world has become a full-time job.  One of the strategies of the lefties of the world to keep us so busy, our lives start to seem a bit meaningless.  We are constantly being weighed down with worry, and become hyper-vigilant regarding the next assault on our liberties.  While starting to find a certain amount of humor in all the goings-on (a protective measure), I look around at the activities we have shunted aside.

How many hours of creative energy have been flushed down a rat-hole due to following every morsel of news - most of which doesn't qualify as news, but just additional diversions?  How many pictures are not painted, books not read, and gardens not tended while we saturate ourselves with mostly meaningless drivel?  The Alinskyites in power enjoy watching this turmoil.  It's one of their goals. They find it amusing.  Isn't that what our president just said about the tea parties?

Do I advocate just giving up?  Absolutely not.  However, we are confronted with a war of ideologies, and in order to be battle-ready, we must refresh our souls.  We must carve out time each day for prayer, make sure we have time for our creative selves, and set aside time for some good old fashioned thinking.

We installed our Kuma Stove as soon as we purchased our house over 10 years ago.  At that time it was just the owner and his sons crafting hand-made stoves.  They've gone pretty upscale since then.  Good for them. It's a beautiful stove.  I've even managed to cook meals on the top during power outages.

Another Day, Another Crisis in the Theater of the Absurd

Good Saturday morning

Once again the MSM has captured the essence (or should that be odor?) of Obama.  The screaming headline reads Obama: Fresh Crisis Without Financial Rules

Wow - yet another crisis.  Let's all ignore Carter changing banking rules to allow more "lower income" families to purchase homes.  Never mind that these folks had no business buying homes. Then Clinton, when he wasn't busy with cigars, pushed it even further along (no pun intended.)

And now Obama wants the crooks in Washington to control the banking and Wall Street crooks?  My first laugh of the day in the theater of the absurd we call the USA.

Meantime, Clinton, who "did not have sex with that woman", is warning us that "the words we use really do matter" , and is worried the tea partiers may start blowing up buildings.  And Barry Soetoro finds us "amusing."

Wow! I can't wait to get to the "real" news...

Good Morning

I haven't made it past the MSM news on Yahoo yet and it's already a fun day in Obamaland.

How about this on Yahoo from the AP?:

Low-cost coverage in Obama health plan not for all

Really? Who would have thought such a thing?  I took the time to read 346  comments and there was about 10 comments that were not scathing anti-Obama rants.

Let's move on to this little meaningless gem, also from the AP by way of Yahoo:

Obama extends health care rights to gay partners

And why do I call it meaningless?  Because people are not denied visitation rights based on how they engage in the sexual act.  And guess what?  Most of the peeps commenting know this, too.

But, fear not my little chickadees, Michelle is in San Diego touring community farms.  Oh yes, did I mention California, you know the California that is totally flat-ass broke,  has some sort of endowment to fund little itty-bitty organic farms and other "healthy initiatives"  in 14 communities?  Price tag - ONE BILLION DOLLARS. Mighty expensive arugula.

Michelle Obama visits San Diego community farm

And now this from UPI:  Outdoors, financial reform on Obama's list (with a few observations from moi)
Obama will discuss the challenges, opportunities and innovation surrounding land conservation efforts during remarks at the White House Conference on America's Great Outdoors at the Interior Department, the White House said. Another Fed land grab coming up!

The president also will discuss the importance of reconnecting American families to the outdoors. When everyone is flat broke, they'll be living in the great outdoors.  Can't get much more "connected" than that.

A Real Jobs Bill

Thanks to Pundette for reminding me about this:

NY Senator Kirsten Gillibrand wants to spend your money for grocery stores...

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand proposed $1 billion in loans and grants Monday to help build 2,100 grocery stores in areas around the nation that lack access to fresh food.
Under her proposal, the Government would borrow and spend a billion dollars to build supermarkets in places liberal social policies have driven them out of  (like Detroit) and in places liberal policies won't let Wal-Mart build stores to provide choice, affordable food.  read the rest

The venomous SEIU is at it again

I come from a family that has always understood the danger of unions.  For one thing, they preferred to work for themselves.  I think our family motto was, "why work  9 to 5 for someone else, when you can work 24/7 for yourself.  However, their predictions of how the unions would go rogue have come true.

I only had one serious run in with a union and it was at the tender age of sixteen.  Since I considered high school a complete bore (it was), I would have done anything to get out.  They had some kind of work-release program (sounds like prison, doesn't it?) and I jumped at the chance.  I landed a position with the old Montgomery Wards on University Ave. in St. Paul, MN.  They stuck me in the accounting department, probably due to my being math challenged.  Things seem to work that way, doncha know.

The department was unionized and in short order the shop steward appeared with my enrollment papers.  I politely told her I wasn't interested in joining the union.  What followed was continual cajoling that progressed into outright harassment.   They tried to convince me of all the reasons I needed the "protection" of the union.  Tony (Soprano) would have been proud.  I remember once explaining patiently that Wards hired me for x amount of dollars to do a job.  I was happy with x amount of dollars.  If I became unhappy with x amount of dollars, I would ask for a raise. If they didn't give me a raise, I had two choices; continue to work for the original x amount of dollars, or find another job which paid x amount of dollars plus y amount of dollars.  Seemed pretty simple to me.

That poor woman was completely befuddled by my answer.  Folks - I was sixteen years old and had a better grasp of the world than this "adult" had.  After about 6 months of this they finally left me alone.  This incident happened almost 50 years ago, but it left behind a brain cell completely devoted to distrust, annoyance, and in some cases, outright hatred of unions.

Places to See and Be Seen

I have been remiss in highlighting some new blogs and sites I've found quite informative.  Last week I received a very nice email from Thomas Bryan, owner of a site called Useful Info Nation.  It is one of the best designed sites I've run across in a long time.

The left column is the news from the left and on the right column is the news from the right (cute.)  In the middle column is videos.  In addition there are sections for News, Entertainment, Columns, Science, Sports, and Technology.  Not to be missed are his sections on Offbeat News and Time Wasters.

This is how Mr. Bryan describes his site:
I have a right and left side on my site and my readers can surely tell the difference in the logical way conservatives state their case as opposed to the sometimes tacky but mostly illogical way liberals or progressives do in the articles to which I link. On my blog, I do daily takes on all things news, left, and right.

Thomas also has a blog where he gives us his take on the goings on in the world. So head on over and take a gander.  You won't be disappointed.

Another new blogger I've stumbled on is Green Mountains Homesteading.  Very well written and well researched articles.  Check out the cartoon he has on this post.  Very funny and very true...

Important Information - Get Involved Now...

Many, many thanks to RightKlik for his links to some of the most user friendly and useful sites I'm seen in a long time.  RK is reminding us that it's not enough to attend Tea Party events and make signs.  The time to get involved in your local elections is now.

Head over and check out the links to primary election dates in all the States and another that lists who's running in your state/district.  If you have a blog, pass these links on and encourage people to get involved in the primaries.
We will remember in November."

Conservatives, Tea Partiers and concerned citizens of every variety have pledged to remember the blatant disregard for the will of the people that this Congress has displayed. People who think this country is headed in the wrong direction plan to make their voices heard load and clear on November 2nd. I'm looking forward to that day.

But there's a problem with that plan. If we wait until November to get involved, many of us will be stuck having to choose between bad candidates and candidates who are even worse.

Are you tired of choosing between the lesser of two evils when you step up to the ballot box? Get involved in the primaries. Promote your favorite candidates on a blog, on Twitter, and in letters to the editor. Make financial contributions. And don't just show up to vote...take like-minded friends with you.  read the rest and bookmark the links RK has provided.
Thanks RK

Sleeping Americans are waking up...

This is actually funny.  Are the Obama lovers starting to wake up?

Really?

Novena for Pope Benedict

Thanks to Nunly for passing this on to us.  And we also thank Nazareth Priest for sending it to her.

Video is only one minute...

PRAYER FOR POPE BENEDICT XVI

Lord, source of eternal life and truth,
give to your shepherd, Benedict, a spirit
of courage and right judgment, a spirit
of knowledge and love. By governing
with fidelity those entrusted to his care,
may he, as successor to the Apostle
Peter and Vicar of Christ, build your
Church into a sacrament of unity, love
and peace for all the world. Amen.
V/ Let us pray for Benedict, the pope.
R/ May the Lord preserve him,
give him a long life,
make him blessed upon the earth,
and not hand him over
to the power of his enemies.
V/ May your hand
be upon your holy servant.
R/ And upon your son,
whom you have anointed.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

Some Changes and Some Linky Love

About the changes first.

Over the past few weeks I have becoming more and more overwhelmed with the amount of information flowing my way.  For a person with ADD, this can make our synapses fire at such a rate that the possibility of our heads exploding is very real.

I have fallen behind in my work, have had less time to read, and have almost completely ignored my creative work.   A few days ago I attacked my Google Reader and deleted about a gazillion feeds. The relief was instantaneous.  Those that made the cut were the people that added something to my life, or brought a new insight to some of things that are going on in our world.

November will be here in the blink of an eye.  The left wants us constantly upset and frustrated instead of healthy and focused.  They do this by always keeping us on the defensive.  We need to carve away the unnecessary and zero in on the things that matter.  And what matters is the elections in November.

And now for some Linky Love

Reaganite Republican has his wonderful Sunday LOL Funnies up and there's some great ones (as usual.)  We thank him for helping us maintain our sense of humor.

Tell the EPA to Stay the Hell Out of Our Homes  from Carol's Closet really puts a point on all this carp coming out about Cap & Tax and the possibilities of some EPA regulations on selling our homes.  Carol recounts her personal story and how some of these proposed regulations would affect her.  Well worth a read...

Anti-Catholicism is Alive and Well

I have been reading the comments on different postings about the Catholic Church, and the level of vicious anti-Catholicism is appalling.  The distortions by the MSM are not only unprofessional but in most cases outright lies.

Creative Minority Report brings us this:

The Associated Press Is Lying

Most of you have heard the news that the Pope (then Cardinal Ratzinger) delayed in defrocking a pedophile priest in California in 1985. The Associated Press, and the rest of the media bandwagon, have heralded this report as 'the smoking gun.' Only, one problem. It's a lie. read the rest

"What can I do about the scandals?"

I've received many emails and comments asking for advice on how individual Catholics can deal with the current spate of media reports on the Holy Father's alleged involvement in obstructing investigations into clerical sexual abuse.
The requests for advice all more or less ask:  what are those of us in the pews supposed to do? read the rest

Creating or saving government dependence: MI welfare program caps hours participants can search for work

Thanks to RightKlik, who has a great quote from Benjamin Franklin on Spreading the Wealth Around,   for leading me to The Liberty to Achieve by Robert Gelinas at American Thinker.

Quote of the Day:
I think the biggest reason there are so many fat slobs running around the country is due to the decline of the culture.  We want the benefits that more wealth and leisure time bring to us, but do not want to shoulder the greater responsibility that goes along with greater freedom and liberty.  We have rejected manners because they interfere with our fun; we have rejected morality because it restrains our obtaining of instant pleasure; we have been given the greatest gifts and refuse to appreciate the hard work and sacrifice that went into making our situation possible.  We want what we want NOW and deem this our greatest ‘right’.  We are spoiled rotten brats.  We, perhaps, therefore, deserve having a spoiled rotten brat in The White House.  Bob Belvedere, The Camp of the Saints

Divine Mercy

My child, know that the greatest obstacles to holiness are discouragement and an exaggerated anxiety. These will deprive you of the ability to practice virtue. All temptations united together ought not disturb your interior peace, not even momentarily. Sensitiveness and discouragement are the fruits of self-love. Have confidence, My child. Do not lose heart in coming for pardon, for I am always ready to forgive you. As often as you beg for it, you glorify My mercy.

Sebelious Calls This a "Cheap Political Stunt"

It doesn't surprise me  that Minnesota and Wisconsin have joined together in support of Obamacare.  Just another reason I don't live there anymore...

What does surprise me is how many of the comments on the Mpls Star-Tribune  article about their  attorney general filing suit were against ObamaCare.  Is the tide turning in the home of the liberals?

Angela McGlowan w/ Updates

Pro-life, pro-gun, anti-tax, anti-wasteful government spending conservative Republican running to represent Mississippians in the 1st congressional district.

RightKlik gives us a look at real racism.  Highlighted is Angela McGlowan, a drop-dead gorgeous  lady (who happens to be black),  running for congress as a conservative Republican.

The only people I hear talking about race since the election of a half black man is the lefties.  It's just more divide and conquer.  Don't fall for it...

It’s almost like when you read about cults, Jonestown, all these cults [that] allow sexual perversity and sexual behavior.
Let me make sure I understand this.  Rosie O'Donnell, a woman who has sexual relations with other women, is talking about sexual perversity?  How weird is that?

Feds Fully Immersed in the Chicago Way of Doing Business.

Two recent headlines...

Am I the only person that sees a problem here?  The feds essentially own GM which means they are buying cars from themselves.  Shouldn't there be some sort of bidding process?  And then they turn around and level the largest fine ever on Toyota, who is probably their biggest competitor.

Another attack on the private sector and the future of your children

The Cosmopolitan Conservative is a very bright lady by the name of Adrienne Royer, who holds all sorts of really important credentials (besides just sharing my name.)  I'm saying this upfront so as to avoid confusion.  Read what she's written about internships and take another peek at the future of your children.

From Cosmopolitan Conservative:

Obama Admin: Now Regulating Internships

Imagine that you’re graduating from college soon. With unemployment at 10%, do you have a chance of getting a job when competing with experienced workers? What are your options?
For many recent college graduates, they take internships. It’s not ideal, but it often gives new workers experience and puts their foot in the door when openings do come up.
That option may not exist much longer.  read the rest

Obama and His Regime - Devoid of Class and Detached From Reality

I spent many years teaching in our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) classes at our church.  We spent one year teaching exactly what the Catechism taught to those who wished to become Catholic.  Once a week, a team of teachers explained a section of the Catechism and after a short cookie break,  engaged the attendees in small group discussion.

One evening I was monitoring a discussion group and one of the students, a rather opinionated fellow, challenged me on a point of Church teaching in a rather confrontational manner, ending his rant by claiming that I was just giving my opinion.  There happened to be several other teachers at the table, and they all looked at me as though to say, "are you going to let that pass or rip him a new one?" (gently, of course.)

After what felt like an hour, but in reality was only a moment, I turned to him and said,

"If you recall at the beginning of the year, I made it quite clear I would always tell you when I was giving my opinion on a subject.  The rest of what I teach is the truth of what the Church teaches, backed up by verifiable facts.  While I appreciate your feelings, feelings alone do not give you license to change or alter the teachings of the Church. What I just stated was fact and not my opinion. If you wish to be a Catholic, then you are bound to believe what the Church teaches.  Feelings are subject to change, depending on, well, how you feel at the moment, and not on truth or reality."

This is exactly what we are encountering when we deal with people who, as my husband always says, "haven't thought it through."  Trying to reason with someone who is fully detached from reality and relies on feelings to direct their actions is like trying to play baseball with a blob of jello.  When presented calmly with facts, they will most often resort to personal attacks, blame, or just plain lies.  Truth to these folks is just a subjective thing.  How many times have you heard; "What's true for one person is not necessarily true for another?" The person making this bold declaration has not an inkling of the absurdity of that statement. Truth will always conform to actuality or reality.

Does this mean we should not have feelings? Of course not.  Feelings are one of the things that make us fully human.  However, they must be backed up by truth.  Proclaiming allegiance to a political figure because of the way he makes you "feel" or because you think he is handsome or speaks well, without any regard to what he actually says or does, is what has gotten us into the mess we're in today.  We now have an administration that has become so bold, they insult and mock us in the most vulgar of manner by selling a T-shirt that proclaims the new healthcare bill to be a Big F*cking Deal.

When engaging such people, it is wise to remain calm and continue to state the facts.  How far they've fallen into the abyss of unreality will determine the outcome.  If they quickly resort to ad hominem attacks, in my opinion, it is not worth your time to continue.  Save your time, energy, and health by engaging people who do not engage in circular logic, and have not completely lost their ability to reason.

Dr. Sanity has provided us with a tremendous article that needs to be read by every thinking person, or not, as the case may be.

PSYCHOTIC LEFT vs NEUROTIC RIGHT ?
by Dr. Sanity

Anna Freud once wrote that the ego of a child in denial "refuses to become aware of some disagreeable reality.... It turns its back on it, and in imagination reverses the unwelcome facts."

The essence of psychological denial is a refusal to look at, or acknowledge, reality.

Fortunately, reality exists outside of one's head and is objective and verifiable. It is not altered by whim, desire, lies or myth. This is not to say that people might not believe ideas that do not conform to reality--in fact, they do so all the time. Just like Anna's description of the child's ego, the ego of an otherwise normal adult may also resort to childish, immature and primitive mechanisms when it feels threatened or wants to avoid the truth.

You would think it would be a simple matter to be "in touch" with reality. But it isn't. It requires a great deal of cognitive effort--i.e., thinking--and often that effort must assert itself over powerful emotions that draw the person away from the real world, to a place more comfortable and unchallenging--i.e., to their inner reality. read the rest

On a much happier note, Quite Rightly (who has an informative post up about the future of new businesses under Obama) has assured me that even though the chips and dip have been scarfed up by the Potluck ladies, they have saved a few chocolate chip cookies in the back room for me.
