Professional Catholics pile on Paul Ryan...

for not being Catholic enough?

These professional Catholics don't like his budget because they have been so thoroughly steeped in the "social justice" hot water that their tea has turned bitter.  They have also accused him of being a "bad" Catholic because he likes the message of Ayn Rand as it relates to capitalism and personal responsibility.

If anyone ever needed proof of how insidiously the Marxist and Communist dogma has entered the mainstream, one only has to read these people and listen to them bleating that children would be starving in the streets if it wasn't for the all-powerful government, and how dare Paul Ryan suggest that perhaps, just perhaps, it may be a good idea to make a few cuts to these programs that render people wards of the state, and therefore incapable of ever taking care of themselves, and it is our Christian duty to allow the government to force us to participate in their "charity", and further claim that it is Catholic teaching.

No it's not.

Now as a firm believer in the 2nd 1st amendment, I applaud their right to their opinions.  I even think that it's a-okay for them to disseminate these opinions on the world wide web.  However, my 2nd 1st amendment rights say I am free to regard them as sadly misled, and in complete ignorance of Catholic teaching, and before they stand on their soapbox and call Ryan a "bad" Catholic, a good hard look in the mirror would be in order.

Ever since Mitt Romney announced Paul Ryan as his running mate, there has been a small but incessant screech, occasionally muffled to hyperactive handwringing, from assorted elements on the right (namely Lisa Graas and assorted Catholic writers) that Ryan is a disciple of Ayn Rand, therefore at best loathsome and far more likely bearing the Mark of the Beast. Because, you know, as a disciple of Rand and therefore a frozen-hearted capitalist/objectivist he’s going to push Grandma off a cliff, burn the orphanage with the kids trapped inside, shut down the soup kitchens and throw sacks filled with puppies and kittens into the river while carving “not one dime of government money for social services!” into Washington’s forehead on Mount Rushmore. What's wrong with socialism?...

it might be easier to answer, "What's right with socialism?"

The Western Free Press interviews Zina Brodovsky, a naturalized US citizen who lived under the Soviet socialism and communism in the former USSR.

Contrast her attitude and demeanor with the whining over-indulged pathetic loser occupests who are literally defecating on the country this woman cherishes.

So all you social justice spoiled yuppie types sitting around some chi-chi coffee house drinking your over-priced soy lattes while demanding "free" stuff and congratulating each other on how superior you are, listen to the truth.  When you get what you think you want, you will be the first to be turned into fertilizer so the elites will have lots of healthy veggies to eat. 

I have nothing but contempt for you...

You dishonor the legacy of every immigrant who came to this country, worked hard, raised families, and made this country what it is.

More on "Social Justice" & Glenn Beck

I wrote this a few days ago on what Glenn Beck said about the phrase "social justice" being code for socialism.  Nothing has happened since to change my mind that Glenn hit the center of the target.

Beck’s concern about the Obama administration, Democrats, Republicans, and, for all I know, The Fraternal Order of Water Buffalo’s, is the extent to which they have been infiltrated by Progressive ideology, which he sees as the great cancer on the Republic. Matthew Yglesias Dumps on Glenn Beck vs Social Justice

Matthew Yglesias has an interesting post slamming Glenn Beck for calling "social justice" code for socialism.  This is the quote from the Ygeleias site made by Glenn Beck:

“I beg you, look for the words ’social justice’ or ‘economic justice’ on your church web site,” Beck urged his audience. “If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, am I advising people to leave their church? Yes!”

Mr. Ygeleias cites the Catholic Church, in particular the Vatican website,  the American Baptist Church, and the Episcopal Church as mainstream churches that tout "social justice."  He seems to think Beck is confusing social justice with the charitable acts of churches.

 While I think that Glenn Beck's advice for people to leave their church over this is a bit imprudent, the sad fact is he is quite right in his assumptions.  In most cases, even within the Catholic Church, social justice has come to mean a form of socialism.  I was born a Catholic and I will die a Catholic, but that doesn't mean I can't tell the difference between the institutional Church and the divine aspects of the Church.

God didn't leave a raft of angels to run The Bride of Christ (Church on earth.)  He used what was available and that happened to be man.  And sometimes man can make an awful hash of things.  Unfortunately, for whatever reason, we have a bunch of bishops who have fallen into the "greenie-weenie-health-care-for-all-let's-make-all-illegals-citizens" trap that the right espouses, forgetting that their main duty is to teach and lead.  Or as I like to say; they're here as shepherds to help us, the sheep, get to heaven.  This thinking isn't confined to the Catholic Church.  However, I try refrain from making remarks about churches I don't attend.

Those of our bishops who  have wandered from the path of preaching and teaching should pull themselves out of the ditch and get back to doing what their calling requires.  Once they do that, the charity will flow quite naturally from the laity, blessing the world with all the peace and justice it can possibly handle. 

Catholic League president Bill Donohue weighs in with this:

Many are hammering Beck for saying, "Am I advising people to leave their church? Yes!" A closer read of what he said shows he followed that quip with, "If I am going to Jeremiah Wright's church. If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish."

Beck didn't say Christians should abandon their religion. He recommended shopping around to find a more conservative parish if one is dissatisfied with hearing left-wing sermons. Nothing new about that. In the Catholic Church, there are priests who are stridently left-wing and stridently right-wing; many parishioners shop accordingly. Protestants shop by leaving one denomination for another. And so on. read the rest

There's No Justice in Social Justice

Some questions were raised by Rhonda over at Chew Life with Your Mouth Closed,
about Catholic Social teaching. Not having the time to delve a bit deeper into the subject, I passed the baton to Mark in Spokane, who picked it up and ran with it.  Concise and clear his post Catholic social teaching and Hayek's demolition of the idea of social justice  is spot on.

I'm just reading Hayek's Road to Serfdom now and am wondering why I missed out on this fabulous thinker and writer.  Stacy McCain claims to be a Hayekian scholar, but he's also a raaaaacist and a cross-dresser (a little known fact that I made up), so we'll have to investigate that a bit. IYKWIMAITYD

I also want all of you to know that Stacy, with whom I have been sleeping, respects me in the morning. He even stays for breakfast.  And they said it wouldn't last!

RightKlik complained(?) because I was linking to him all the time. Not wanting to hurt our friendship, I did my best to refrain from even uttering his name. Cathy of Alex, the Recovering Dissident Catholic, has a thought provoking post on "progressivist, dissenting, Catholics in Name Only", which applies to all who dissent from the teachings of God.   Most of you know I struggle with some of the priest and bishops bashing that goes on.  (not that Cathy is doing any bashing in this post.) 

At some point, though, we have to ask ourselves at what point do we say "enough", and what the proper course of action should be? When I queried my pastor on that question his answer was, "when you've had enough." Well, I had enough a long time ago and have been mostly silent on the subject, except in comments I leave at other blogs. 

Maybe some of my cleric readers would see fit to do some posts on this subject.
