John Hawkins is claiming to shut down Right Wing News...

far as I can see both his website and Facecrap page are still there.

Disclaimer:  I am not a John Hawkins fan.  I quit reading him  years ago when he wrote some egregious article about how smart he was and how all of us dirt people were too stupid to have a successful blog.

That was back in July of 2011:

In his "woe is me" screed over at Townhall,  How Conservatives Are Being Destroyed by Facebook, Twitter and Google Without Even Realizing It, he points out what Project Veritas is bringing to light about Facecrap, YouTube, and Google are shadow banning conservative sites.

First he reminds us how important, popular, and smart he and his sites are. Then he tells us that because of the machinations of Facecrap and Google he has to shut down his site Right Wing News. Most important, John Hawkins reminds us he is still an idiot.

Hawkins just started a new site called Grumpy Sloth (no link on purpose) where he follows his formula "number posts" ie:  10 Things to Do While on the Toilet, 8 Ways to Kill Your Wife,  4 Ways to Have Meaningful Conversation With Broccoli, and 20 Dumbest Bloggers of All Time.

The last article could list John Hawkins as number one.

Message to John:  I am not being destroyed, and I realize exactly what is going on in social media. You, however, need to get your inflated ego under control and realize people can talk to their broccoli without your help.

Your Twitter feed has a link to your Townhall article with exactly one retweet in 16 hours.  Ummmmmmmm, most popular blogger, evah?

You state:

Social media IS the new public square. It’s the place you go when you want to reach out and find an audience.

Let me tell you what I (who is but a small insignificant nothing burger of a dirt person) thinks:

Social media is quickly becoming irrelevant.  People are tired of having Facecrap rule their lives and reading supercilious bloggers like you who tell us how we're being destroyed.  The MSM is already irrelevant and all but the most rabid leftwingers know that it's a cesspit shithole of blatant lies.

I have to agree with one of your commenters at Townhall:

Moron snowflake conservative live-blogs his own meltdown, whataputz, no?

but life goes on.

Prediction: 

At the end of the debt talks we will have more debt and our taxes will be raised.  End of story.

The worst migraine aura I've ever experienced happened after reading a HuffPo story and a bunch of comments.  I went on an expedition over there to  "know what the enemy is thinking" only to be reminded that the enemy doesn't think - they feeeeeeeeeeel.

To make matters worse, I happened upon an article by John Hawkins, The Slow, Painful Coming Death Of The Independent, Conservative Blogosphere.  Ordinarily, I wouldn't link to a silly screed such as this but since I'm not a big important blogger like John, I hesitate to be miserly with my linky-love.  Because that's the only reason he posted that article.  It's called blog whoring.  It seems to be working, but not exactly how he expected.

Allow me to sum up his article to save you the pain of actually having to go and read it.  If you're a small independent conservative blogger, you may as well put a dagger in your heart and end it all. Consider yourself a loser, unlike John who is big, important, and loved by all.

iOTW is not a large blog, we’re not a small blog. We’re somewhere in the middle. And being in the middle means that there are plenty of blogs we can help. iOTW doesn’t want any conservative blogs going belly up (except maybe some annoying ones – hehe) because that isn’t going to help the overall cause of conservatism.
