Save Mosab Yousef

This is a story that needs to go viral.  I've been following it for awhile, and now people with more skill have stepped up to the bat to actually do something - and we thank them.

Rather than spend time re-creating what Reaganite Republican has done such a great job of posting about, including all the important links, I shall re-direct you to his site.

Smitty Smacks Down Krugman

One of the first things I read this morning was an article by Paul Krugman,  The Third Depression.  Admittedly, I only had a half of a cup of coffee under my belt, so my thinking may have been a bit fuzzy. It seemed to me Krugman said, "The only way out of fiscal problems caused by too much easy credit and overspending is more easy credit and overspending!"  Hmmm,  that can't be right.

Luckily, Smitty explained it for me, and I thank him.  He also garnered the coveted quote of the day award:
What is dawning upon citizens around the world, who are neither stupid nor instinctively political, is that the world is governed by thieves and morons that are stupid and all too political. No good can come of this open loop system of debt and more debt. Like an idiot savant dope fiend on a bender, the best result of Krugmanism might be a slightly lengthened euphoria before an even more devastating crash.
Even though Smitty used highly technical language involving generators, rotors, and other mysterious elements of the mechanical world, I was able to finally understand exactly what Mr. Krugman said.  Of course, I'd had a second cup of coffee by that time, which helped.

From Smitty by way of The Other McCain:

Annie Get Your Gun - Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Gun Owners

In its second major ruling on gun rights in three years, the Supreme Court Monday extended the federally protected right to keep and bear arms to all 50 states. The decision will be hailed by gun rights advocates and comes over the opposition of gun control groups, the city of Chicago and four justices.
Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the five justice majority saying "the right to keep and bear arms must be regarded as a substantive guarantee, not a prohibition that could be ignored so long as the States legislated in an evenhanded manner." read the rest

Reaganite Republican has our Sunday dose of fun posted.

And we thank him!

Protect your reputation! Dear Abby, please help...

Dear Abby,

I am a crack dealer in Paducah, KY who has recently been diagnosed as a carrier of HIV virus. My parents live in Bowling Green.  One of my sisters lives in Taylorsville and is married to a transvestite.  My father and mother have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana. They are financially dependent on my other two sisters, who are prostitutes in Louisville.  I have two brothers: one is currently serving a non-parole life sentence at Eddyville for the murder of a teenage boy in 1994. My other brother is currently in jail awaiting charges of sexual misconduct with his three children.

I have recently become engaged to marry a former prostitute, who currently lives in Lexington. She is still a part time "working girl".  All things considered, my problem is this.  I love my fiancée and look forward to bringing her into the family. I certainly want to be totally open and honest with her.

Should I tell her about my cousin from Ashland, who is an Obama supporter?

"Disclose Act" Unions now get nearly unrestricted, undisclosed political spending

House shreds our constitution for raw, ugly, partisan gain’ by vote of 219-206

The DISCLOSE Act is the Democrats big legislative “fix” to pushback against the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that eliminated a number of campaign finance restrictions on first amendment grounds. It just passed the House this afternoon (June 24th)  — even with 36 Democrats voting against it.  read the rest

Ten Buck Friday - A Great Idea!

I have been remiss in not mentioning Ten Buck Friday.  My blogger buddy, RightKlik, has been doing a wonderful job getting the word out.

The following stolen directly from Maggie's Notebook (I thank her for saving me a bit of time)

Conscientiously Conservative - the birth mother of Ten Buck Fridays:

Many of us get paid on Fridays... if we bring a sack lunch a couple of times a week to work, right there is an extra tenner. What if conservatives donated $10 each and every week up through November to viable candidates and/or PAC's that are promoting a conservative agenda? If you can't afford every week, what about twice a month? Or once a month? Conservatives need to put their money where their mouth is. Commit to Ten Buck Fridays... it WILL make a difference come November!
Ten Buck Fridays is a great idea, and I think it's one that should really catch on.
I'd like to join with conservative bloggers and conservatives on twitter to focus attention on a different candidate each week. Each week, deserving candidates could be nominated. Polling through the next several days could determine the crowd favorite...and on Friday, a good conservative would be hit with a grassroots moneybomb!
Imagine what a thousand grassroots conservatives could accomplish in unison. Ten thousand dollars a week would grab a lot of attention and could help some candidates who really need it.
Who will join us?

Ten Buck Friday Week 1 Winner
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn)
and write in "Ten Buck Friday" on the donation form

 Also stolen from Maggie:
RightKlik announced at Midnight EDT that Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) is the recipient of funds from Ten Buck Friday Blogs with 42% of the vote. While some of us donated last week, this is the first week of promoting the program, so this is Week 1, even though some of us donated to poll winner Sharron Angle last week. Angle is aiming for Senator Harry's Reid's senate seat. After today, there are 18 Fridays ahead before the November election.

I was born and raised in Minnesota and have many (liberal) relatives that live there.  Their favorite term for Michele is "stupid" and an "embarrassment."  This coming from people that voted for Al Franken. That says it all.

Giving Michele Bachmann $10.00 will "make my day."

This Afternoon: Congress Votes on Grassroots Muzzle, ‘DISCLOSE Act’

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 24, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Armed with the inspiration that comes from political desperation, the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on campaign finance bill Thursday that critics on both the left and the right say will disable grassroots political opposition – including the nascent “Tea Party” movement that has been looking to sweep away liberal incumbents in November.   read the rest

Five Year Anniversary of Kelo

From the Institute for Justice:
Arlington, Va.Kelo was the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that became the property rights shot heard ’round the world.  Wednesday marks its fifth anniversary.
In the merely five years since that infamous ruling, the vast majority of state legislatures, many state supreme courts and the public itself have acted to limit Kelo, which took away the homes of seven New London, Conn., families for private development and sparked a nationwide backlash against eminent domain for private gain.

And what now stands on the land where 75 homes once stood around Susette Kelo’s little pink house?  Nothing but barren fields, weeds and feral cats.  Ten years lost and more than $80 million in taxpayer money spent.  Even Pfizer, which received massive corporate welfare to move to New London and sparked the abuses of eminent domain, has now announced that it will close its research and development headquarters and leave New London. read the rest

The sad part about this is Suzette Kelo will never live in her house again and enjoy her old tight knit neighborhood.  I always loved her cute little pink house with the beautiful flowers.

Almost Breaking News:

I've been remiss in telling you Nunly (Bad Habit) is back after a well deserved break!  Wooohooo!  She has graced us today with a most excellent article:  Corporate America and what that has come to mean to some politicians.

Pundette gives us  a dose of Chris Christie.
When Pundette was last seen she was being fanned by a passerby and was babbling incoherently about leg tingles.  Down girl!

Lest you think I've just been wasting time today instead of writing something brilliant (well ok - writing something that's barely passable), allow me to tell you what's up.  A huge batch of chili, a ginormous pot of butter beans (we make "mashed potatoes" out of them - delicious!!!), another ginormous pot of pintos, and beef vegetable soup are all simmering away on my stove.  Three meatloaves are ready to be vacuum sealed and frozen as well as slow simmered beef for stroganoff and other good things.

Linky Love and the usual pithy commentary...

Robin of Berkley at American Thinker in Deliver Us From Evil  is starting to realize what is at the core of our problems.  The presence of evil in our world is really not spoken about often enough.

Which brings us to this companion piece by Father Dwight Longenecker, Lead Us Not Into Temptation from which we also receive our quote of the day:
...sin is nothing positive. It is an absence of something good or a deformation or perversion of something good. The devil never created anything (except perhaps the double knit polyester leisure suit). All he can do is twist and pervert the good that God has created.
On the education front we have Patrick Archbold at Creative Minority Report taking on the teacher's union: Teachers Unions v. Education  --- the Facts.

To go along with that how about Parents are outraged after young teenagers were instructed on graphic sexual acts during a Planned Parenthood sex education class at the local high school in Shenandoah, Iowa.  All "sex education" needs to be removed from schools.  Period!  As a matter of fact, government run schools need to go away, too.

BREAKING: McChrystal Resigns? Judge to Obama - you lie!

Since I'm headed to Costco, be sure and bookmark the Reaganite Republican for updates on the McChrystal drama.

 Also at The BlogProf:

Ouch!

Miley Cyrus, Stacy McCain, and that "going viral" Reuters photo w/Update

I received an email from Stacy McCain - along with many other "lady" bloggers who are, no doubt, way more important than moi.  He's requesting that we weigh in on Reuters' decision to post a picture of Miley Cyrus in which her "girlie parts" are exposed during a performance.

I have a ton of errands to run, but a request of Stacy's is too important to ignore.  However, since I'm in a hurry, he and Smitty will have to excuse any misplaced or non-existent commas.

My first reaction to Stacy's original post on the subject was diametrically opposed to Stacy's angst over Reuters' running that picture.  Since I don't particularly like to post on people such as Miley,  I just rolled my eyes and moved on.

However, after thinking about it, my conclusions have changed to be more in line with Stacy's three suggestions:

  1. The photo editor at Reuters who approved this image for distribution needs to be fired;
  2. Miley Cyrus needs to be advised against traveling down this ex-Disney Princess road to Britney/Lindsay burnout; and
  3. Someone at the Justice Department’s Innocent Images Task Force should make a friendly phone call to Reuters, and a slightly less friendly call to Perez Hilton, just to let them know that they’re in the danger zone.
Stacy's number one point is dead on.  Just because Miley clearly has greedy management who are exploiting her, and parents who have abdicated their responsibilities, doesn't mean we need to jump on this bandwagon and hasten what is sure to be a disaster for this girl.

Number two point.  I used to have a lot of respect for Billy Ray Cyrus.  He appeared to be living a good Christian life.  But ever since the Vanity Fair spread with the overtly sexual picture of he and Miley, I've come to question his ability to make sound decisions.  Fathers are supposed to protect and guide their little girls - not turn them over to management that is turning that girl into the new celebrity train wreck.

Number three?  I'm not sure Reuters can be held legally responsible for showing a picture of an underage girl flashing her girlie parts when the flashing took place at a concert in front of hundreds of people.  Reuters does have a moral responsibility, and they breached that barrier - big time!  The ultimate Judge of this matter is the only judgment that matters and I don't think He is real happy.

As a nation we are quickly losing all sense of decency.  The ultimate villain in this fiasco is not Reuters, or even that  purveyor of slime, Perez Hilton.  The ultimate villains are the management team, the parents, and anyone who buys into this sleazy trash.  There was a time in this country when such things only happened in the establishments that huddled on the outskirts of town on the other side of the railroad tracks.  Now it's an every day occurrence in "polite" society.  We all share the blame for this.

Thomas Sowell on Tyranny

Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?
When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics.

Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler's rhetoric and had far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions.

"Useful idiots" was the term supposedly coined by V.I. Lenin to describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the Soviet Union.

Put differently, a democracy needs informed citizens if it is to thrive, or ultimately even survive. read the rest

Discussion at Memeorandum

General McCrystal has an "Inappropriate Relationship" with his mouth...

Funny.  I spent some time yesterday working on an article about our current penchant for calling sexual sin an "inappropriate relationship."  Does't sound quite as bad as "I was a pig, cheated on my wife, and broke my marital vows."

Now General McCrystal is being "summoned" to Washington to explain his comments that will appear in Rolling Stone magazine.  Number one: Why is a General giving interviews to, what I consider, a low-rent publication?  And number two:  Even if what he said was true, his behavior was clearly inappropriate.

Read what others have said:

The Other McCain:  If McChrystal Is McArthur . . .

and wins quote of the day for his reply to this tweet:  Gen. McChrystal symbolizes the open contempt our military feels for this ridiculous administration.

Reply:
Yeah, but you’re not supposed to say it out loud, troop — and you’re certainly not supposed to say it out loud in a conversation with a reporter from Rolling Stone. Obama is a pig...No offense to pigs intended

From CBS:

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Trumpeting the 10,000th road project funded by his Recovery Act, President Obama borrowed two of three words made famous in March by Vice President Biden.
This is a "big....deal," said Mr. Obama, pausing for effect between the two words between which Biden had inserted an expletive in an overheard whisper three months ago.
[...]
The trip Columbus probably cost taxpayers between $500,000 and $1 million.

Air Force One alone bills out at $100,000 per hour, and the round trip is nearly two hours. Adding to the cost are military aircraft to carry limos and secret service vehicles, Marine One on standby, Secret Service, local police and other factors. read the rest

 and from Fox News:
President Obama went to the groundbreaking of a road project in Columbus, Ohio, Friday to show that his massive stimulus package is still churning out jobs -- a "good news" story that was anything but for some construction workers who were trying to figure out how to make up for the payday they lost due to the president's visit.
The workers were told not to report to their construction project at a nearby hospital Friday, because the Secret Service was shutting it down for security reasons. They also were told that they would not get paid for the forced day off.  source

What Some Folks are Thinking in Idaho - Oil Spill a Plan?

What I learned while out and about:

While running errands yesterday, I spoke to quite a number of people, mainly because I will talk to a fence post.   Admittedly, North Idaho is a very conservative area, but I was still taken slightly aback by the number of ordinary people who expressed the suspicion that something wasn't quite right about the whole oil spill thingy.  It does seem rather convenient.

The library has 8 holds on Hayek's Road to Serfdom.  I have my own copy and was simply discussing what was on the top of the Amazon lists with the head of the library.  I said it was sad that many people would have to wait 8 months or longer to read the book.

"No they won't," she said.  "I'm ordering a few more copies along with more copies of Glenn Beck's Overton Window and Nelson DeMille's new book Lion.  Thanks for bringing this to my attention."

I love the way we do things in North Idaho.

The Scam Artists are Hard at Work

From the Heritage Foundation:

An Offer BP Couldn’t Refuse

[...]Yes, BP did get the White House to say they do not want to see BP driven into bankruptcy. But who does that promise really serve? Clinton administration Deputy Attorney General turned BP lawyer Jamie Gorelick explains:  “We know what it looks like when a company is driven into bankruptcy. The claims that come first are the creditors, then the employees, then the environmental claims, and then the likes of shrimpers. This would not be a good result for anyone.” Now look at how the deal between the White House and BP is structured. BP is not handing over a $20 billion novelty check tomorrow. Instead they are set to pay $3 billion in the third quarter of this year, $2 billion in the fourth, and then $1.25 billion per quarter thereafter. In the meantime, BP has identified $20 billion worth of assets in the United States that the federal government now has a lien on. In the event of a bankruptcy, guess who gets to jump in line and have their claims honored first? Still guessing? Then ask Chrysler’s secured creditors.
