Your LOL Moment for the Day
compliments of the wildly smart and funny Digital Hairshirt...
Made For Each Other
It's been a long time since I read a New York Times wedding announcment that made me laugh - frankly, most couples have been pretty banal, even the gay ones.
But last Sunday's was a doozie! Quite possibly, these are the two people on earth that truly deserve each other the most. click on the title and read the whole thing. Really, you must!
The country will look like Michigan before this is over...
It used to be said that California was the trend setter for the country. Last I checked, Callie was dead flat broke. Florida is in pretty poor shape, and The Blog Prof, expert on all things Michigan, gives us the facts on what's going there (it isn't pretty) Granholm's $billion 21st Century Jobs Fund declared a total bust by the liberal Detroit Free Press.
While chatting with my doctor's wife a few days ago she said, "It's time to think outside the box." No, actually it's time to get rid of your box all together.
I'm heading out to vote in our primary. Elections have consequences and primaries are important. But I fear it may be too late. When you have more than half the people in a country reliant on the government (that would be you and me), for their sustenance, it is highly likely the downward trend can be reversed.
I'm not being pessimistic, just realistic. The good news is, the cream of the populace will rise to the top eventually. The people who don't rely on Starbucks or granite counter tops for their happiness, will suffer the least. Which will you be?

Rev. Richard Perozich is not afraid to tell it like it is...
The following is the text from the May 23rd "From the Pastor" page of the Sunday Bulletin from St. Mary Church in Escondido:
On February 1, 2009 I wrote to you a longer article to rouse you to oppose the promotion of abortion and to show you where the new government was directing the country away from God toward evil. Here are some excerpts and updated commentaries:
“The first 100 days of a new presidency is the time when legislation desired by the new leader is rammed through the congress without much discussion and over the objections of the minority party. It often is not good legislation, has been brewing in the hearts of special interest groups for years, who now have a vehicle to impose their will on the American people.
“If the special interest groups have their way, the first 100 days will spell the end of days for the american nation as we have known it since 1776. Abominations will be forced on us by the new government, such as which our founders never had intended, and certainly opposed to the Christian life: abortion on demand, homogenital sex, lust in all its forms, euthanasia, stem cell killling, cloning, taxes, oppression of opportunity and entrepreneurs, silencing of faith and free speech among many.”
It took more than 100 days for this government to push most of its anti-God, anti-Catholic agenda, and it still is pushing hard.
Abortion is our god and Obama, Pelosi, Kennedy are his prophets. His sacrifice is the life of infants and the souls of mothers. His priests are doctors who perform abortions. His church is Planned Parenthood and FOCA, (freedom of choice act). His covenant promises rights and freedom for women. It delivers death of infants, permanent damage to the souls of women, of men, of politicians.
Within weeks of taking office President Obama issued an executive order to promote abortion overseas to countries which receive U.S. aid. Secretary of State Clinton visited countries and the U.N. to promote abortion. The Health Care Reform Bill does not contain explicit anti abortion language, only an executive order from the president not to fund abortion.
Homosexual lust is our god and Obama, Bishop Gene Robinson, and the Democratic Party are his prophets. the sacrifice is personal integrity and corruption of the body and spirit. Its priests and priestesses are men who have sex with men (MSM) and women who have sex with women (WSW). Its church is the Human Rights Campaign and other activist organizations, Pride clubs and “gay” and “lesbian” centers. Its covenant offers false promises of equality with those who have normal sexual feelings and inner peace. It delivers disease, prolonged adolescent immaturity, and oppression of the church and good people who live upright moral lives.
Congress passed “hate crime” laws to include sexual orientation which raises homosexual practice to a protected behavior and punishes those who oppose it. Congress, with the president’s encouragement is pushing to promote homosexual predators in the military by trying to end the ”Don’t Ask: Don’t Tell” policy, including the proposed new Justice to the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan. Congress and the president are trying to promote ENDA, the Employment Non Discrimination Act to include transvestites and homosexuals so that they must be hired even by religious organizations in spite of religious values and over against the first ammendment of freedom of religion.
Money is our god, and the the wealthy and welfare are its prophets. Its sacrifice is hard earned savings and retirement. Its priests are those taking obscene profits by defrauding investors, and those who choose government money over honest work. Its church is a non-vigilant Securities and Exchange Commission and Congress. Its covenant promises self-reliance and security in wealth or sustenance. It delivers collapse of the economy, unfair distribution of wealth, and a drain on the tax system.
Under the guise of crisis intervention, monies were given to private industries that had to surrender control of their operations to the government. The government has grown so much in its appetite for money, there is talk of stripping churches of tax exempt status to feed the state’s control of our lives. Dawn Johnsen, proposed by the president to head the Office of Legal Counsel, sought to strip the Catholic Church of its tax exempt status because of our teaching on abortion.
Socialism is our god, and Obama is his prophet. Its sacrifice is personal freedom. Its priests are politicians and communist ideological organizations. Its church are legislatures and executive branches in government. Its covenant promises fairness and sameness for all. It delivers power and wealth to those who already possess it and takes away opportunity for those out of power and destroys of the economy and future for others.
“CCC 2425 (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 2425)The Church has rejected the totalitarian and atheistic ideologies associated in modem times with “communism” or “socialism.” She has likewise refused to accept, in the practice of “capitalism,” individualism and the absolute primacy of the law of the marketplace over human labor. Regulating the economy solely by centralized planning perverts the basis of social bonds; regulating it solely by the law of the marketplace fails social justice, for “there are many human needs which cannot be satisfied by the market.” Reasonable regulation of the marketplace and economic initiatives, in keeping with a just hierarchy of values and a view to the common good, is to be commended.”
Liberalism is our god and the Democratic Party is his prophet. Its sacrifice is freedom, integrity, opportunity, and wholeness. Its priests are the fascist elites in government, education, and bureaucracies, who wish to control others’ thoughts and actions. Its churches are political parties, universities, and corrupt professional organizations. Its covenant promises unbridled freedom for perversion of the natural law and oppression for all who disagree with it. It delivers the breakdown of society, constitutional government, and true freedom for morally minded people, especially faithful Christians.
Liberalism or progressivism rejects traditional values, rewrites history, and is centered on man’s desires, not on charity. It substitutes its propaganda for the truth of God, establishes itself as authority and demands obedience to its novelty.
For us Christians, these are abominations, and the people who promote them are truly overcome by evil.
This may not be the change you wanted when you voted for new government, but it is the change you voted for if you did not clearly listen to the evil promises of the new prophets and priests of the new “churches” and ignored the warnings about the new evils that this government clearly promised to impose on America.
The Father is OUR God, and Jesus Christ is His prophet. His sacrifice is the life of His Son Jesus celebrated at Mass. His priests are those ordained and faithful clergy who teach fully the Catholic faith from the Bible and Magisterium, and who celebrate the sacraments of the church faithfully according to its tradition and rites. Its Church is the Holy Catholic Church in which salvation is found in Jesus, the only name in Heaven or on earth by which man can be saved, through Jesus, the only mediator between God and man who saves us by grace through faith in Him and not in abortion, homosexual lust, money’s greed, socialism, or liberalism. He delivers forgiveness of sin and eternal life.
Renewed in Spirit, we begin the fight for the faith and the souls of all in our country and world. We march, telephone, fax, write, protest, inform all those in power of our beliefs and interests to show them we will resist their impositions, remove them from office and employment if they pervert our nation.
We must pray as if it all depends on God, and work as if it all depends on us.

Pentecost Sunday
A powerful homily from Father John Speekman
There has spread throughout the contemporary Church a deadly pandemic called the 'we-can-fix-it' virus. This virulent pest has escaped into the house of God from the mind of a godless individual, we won't bother mentioning his horrible name, and infected good people everywhere. The 'we-can-fix-it' virus causes sufferers to imagine that there is no human problem, material or spiritual, for which the solution cannot be found somewhere in the cleverness of human beings. This, of course, is why we have so many programmes, meetings, bureaucratic structures in our parishes. We are searching for the idea or the individual who will 'fix it all' for us. read the rest

Spreading Manure
No, I'm not talking about O-whats-his name, although he has mastered the art of spreading sh*t. I'm referring to the two dump truck loads of the finest composted manure a person could ever hope to have. Do you know how much manure that is? Imagine your 10 x 14 foot living room filled to the ceiling with manure and you'll have an idea of one of my two piles. Moving that manure to my various gardens has become a full-time job. I have visions of this continuing until they finally just bury me in the shit stuff. Handy, quick, and green.
There is so much crazy stuff going on in this country, I am rendered speechless (and when is a little old Italian type lady ever rendered speechless?) While all you younger bloggers are suitably outrageous, it occurred to me that the few of us who are a bit more advanced in age suffer to a much greater degree. I'm not downplaying your angst or attempting to make it into a contest, but those of us who are closer to 65 or 70 are able to remember a world that at least had the appearance of sanity.
Oh sure, we had WW II, Korea, and witnessed the civil rights movement up close and personal. But before the 60's hippies hit the scene, for the most part we lived in a world where people shunned divorce, thought babies born out of wedlock were a disgrace, kept their mouths shut about the manner in which they engaged in sex, and vile language and derision by our elected officials was kept in the back room where it belonged. I remember when Lucy and Desi couldn't even be shown on TV in the same bed. I thought my parents were weird because they had a double bed instead of twin beds. In those days, pregnant women had their tummies hidden on TV, whereas today, nursing mothers argue for the right to flop their breasts out in public.
Our "culture" has become course, crude, and just plain ugly. Little girls dress like hookers, grown men go shopping in T-shirts with vulgar statements emblazoned on their sagging chests, women appear in public in pajamas, and our first lady attends a state dinner with her breasts "all squished up" as Glenn Beck so delicately said on his show.
We are fast becoming a nation of weak and vapid people who care more about the biggest loser, when in the real world, we are the biggest loser. We have lost our sense of beauty and graciousness, and we have lost our sense of God. Remember that saying, "God doesn't make junk?" Then tell me why we act like junk?
The socialistic government the "elites" of this country are busy ramming down our throats depends on such ugliness because socialism is ugly. By its nature, socialism must have an enemy. It must pit classes of people against each other. Why else would the president of this country allow a leader of a foreign nation to stand in front of congress and denigrate America? Why else would the socialists in congress stand and applaud this travesty?
It is my opinion, based on watching this administration, that we are being maneuvered into more rash and ugly behavior. It's a short step from shooting someone the finger from a car, or ramming a shopping cart in a store (something I actually had happen at Costco last week), to taking a swing at someone who offends you.
Even Dr. Zero, a voice of reason and calm, sounds a bit peeved in his latest article "The Feral Vanguard."

There is going to be a "new world order", but as I've said before, it will not be what the people in charge are envisioning. This world is too large to control and human nature being what it is, the snakes will soon consume their own tails. But not before causing untold damage and distress. The world I see coming will be a smaller world. We will be reconnected with our neighbor. Barter in the sense of doing for others what they can't do for themselves will return. And there will be a spiritual renewal as we turn to God for the answers that the failed government was unable to provide."Increasing levels of coercion are necessary to expand the socialist system, and keep wealth producers trapped within it. To maintain popular support, the socialist needs voters to stay angry at designated class enemies. The Obama style of total government control over private businesses tends to turn feral with frightening speed, because it attempts to preserve the illusion of private enterprise, even as the “entrepreneurs” are enslaved to the total state."

Two Things plus some updates so it's no longer "two" things. Sigh...
Reaganite Republican has pointed me to the Arizona Secure the Border site. There is a call to sign a petition in support of Arizona's immigration law. Take a moment and sign the petition to support both Arizona and Gov. Jan Brewer.
I have been reading a blog for quite some time now called The Daily Nigger. Another of my favorite blogs, McNorman, led me to this rather pithy site. I have been reluctant to link because on occasion the language is a bit salty. What attracts me to the Daily Nigger is the ability the writer has to cut through to the heart of most matters. Clearly this is an educated person who writes well. While I sometimes disagree with the conclusions he/she reaches, more often than not I am in complete agreement.
Today's article is a perfect example of "cutting to the chase" and expresses quite well many of my recent thoughts.

From: Secure the Border
Number Two on my ListArizona has become the center of a renewed national focus on border security and illegal immigration since Governor Brewer signed SB1070. For too long the calls to Washington have been unanswered and the border remains unsecured.
However, instead of taking action to help, the state has come under attack by people who are misrepresenting Arizona’s laws and trying to hurt our efforts to support the rule of law. They include President Obama, Al Sharpton, the East Coast media, and political strategists who are trying to use the issue of illegal immigration for political gain.
The calls for boycotts and misrepresentation of Arizona’s law only hide the real problem – the need to SECURE THE BORDER. We’re asking citizens from across the United States to stand up in support of Arizona and the need to secure the border.
If you want to stand up with Secure the Border - Support Arizona, please join us in showing your support by adding your name to the petition.

As A History Addict, I Do Not Believe In Death…
I am addicted to history. I guess if you have read The Daily Nigger long enough you would have gotten that impression about me and the Head Nigga in Charge over here at the corporate headquarters located in the Mississippi Delta, just down the road from the cotton gin and to the right down the gravel road by the grain elevator. Yes, me and the HNIC have a curious little symbiotic relationship going, whereby he assumes the “role” of the massa’s house nigga and I assume the role of the humble, loyal slave out in the field singing like there’s no tomorrow. It’s all so nice and neat. The story line is almost too predictable. That’s what makes it so hard to believe. But it’s true. Every last bit of it is.
History is a fabulous tool if used properly. Once understood, one has the choice to either go against it or ride it like a wave to shore. The point is, does anybody have a crystal ball? Can anybody really see what’s coming? Well, all you have to do is look at history and you will see precisely what I am referring to. read the rest

(emphasis mine)
For the past hundred years, America has been slowly moving away from the principles of its founding. The ideals of liberty, individual achievement, limited government, and the equality of opportunity have been slowly supplanted by calls for security, class warfare, excessive regulation, and the equality of outcome. The passage of stimulus acts, bailouts, government takeovers of two U.S. automakers, and the health care overhaul prove that our movement away from 1776 has accelerated.Passage of the health care bill has sparked a revival of small-government thinking, causing many to predict significant Republican gains in Congress this fall. But despite some short-term success, this small-government revival is doomed to fail. The depressing truth is that the only way to regain the full measure of those freedoms proclaimed in our Founding Documents is for our current federal government to completely collapse under the weight of its own excesses. read the rest

Ascenesion Thursday
The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven (Luke 24:51; Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9-11).
From Father Speekman:
Today's readings are for all those among us who have come to realise that they are not in control. This may seem a rather banal comment to make but it constantly surprises me how the older I get the more I realize, each time at a deeper level, my utter powerlessness to direct the unfolding circumstances of my own life, let alone those of others. More and more I feel like the Apostles in the first reading, a mere onlooker to the unfolding plan of God. read the rest
From Father Longenecker:
C.S.Lewis once wrote that in the end there will only be two kinds of people. Those who said to God, "Thy Will be done" and those to whom God says, "Thy will be done." This stark choice is the choice we are give by God because he really does grant us free will. Because we are created in His image and he is omnipotent he gives each one of us a little scrap of his omnipotence. We really can do what we will. read the rest

Cash rewards or a visit from my BFF Tony (Soprano) - your choice.
Eric Cantor's "You Cut" Site. Will it make a difference?
Probably not, but it's a good way for Americans to begin to grasp the enormity of our problems.
Check out You Cut
What the citizens of this fine country do not always grasp is the enormity of people receiving government funds. We tend to think in terms of "welfare" without undersatnding how many people are affected or, as I prefer to think of it, infected.
Take a look at the Heritage Foundation's " The 2008 Index of Government Dependency." It's long and dry - not nearly as much fun as reading jabs at Elena Kagan's appearance (what's up with that, anyway? It's reprehensible and boorish.)
But here's the deal. All this other stuff is merely a distraction from the main issue. The number of people who receive some sort of benefit from the government far outweighs the number of productive citizens. Even middle-class citizens are being roped in by clunker replacements and caulk for their house. Just last week, a company contacted me to check all my duct work and do any and all repairs, compliments of my electric company. Uh, no. My electric company is not paying for this. The government, meaning you, is shelling out your tax dollars. I politely declined.
I'm heading out to plant the rest of my bushes (45 total), and when I return we'll chat about this focus on Obama. Glenn Beck, for all his histrionics, is on the right track. Obama is a nothing more than a puppet. After Glenn's Crime, Inc programs, I spent over a week doing nothing but researching his information. I was shocked by the ease with which I was able to vet the people and organizations in question.
My next question would have to be, "Why is Glenn Beck able to freely point out these connections?" The only conclusion has to be because these people don't care. And why not? Because they've got the system wired, and it's not to our benefit.
More to come...

For Goodness Sake...
Up at my usual summer time (about 5 am), just so I can spend over TWO HOURS getting my computer to run without that awful grinding and constant message of "not responding." There went all my allotted time for being pithy and wise.
It is now almost 9:45 am which puts me almost three hours behind on my day. I shall return later - the garden calls.
Some things to read that caught my eye:
American Spectator: Who Will Bail Out America?
Thanks to The Reaganite Republican for this link: Why Bigger Government = Socialism & is Suicide (Vid)
While we all count on The Blog Prof to not only bring us gobs and oodles of news as well as "all things Michigan", this article from Whiskey and Gunpowder Detroit’s Socialist Nightmare Is America’s Future gives us a glimpse of what could well be our future.
And as we "speak" Blog Prof posted this: Reason#613,596 why Michigan is broken: state spending money to "combat negative perceptions" about welfare
In the meantime, my numbers are crawling up at the Cannonball Catholic Blog Awards (no registration required - just a simple little radio button to click) , but I desperately need your help. I thank all of you who have taken the time to vote (remember - you can vote everyday)
Another way to help would be to copy and paste the link and post it on your blog. Tell your readers that I'm paying big bucks for votes - or something. I thank you in advance...

Wake Me When It's Over...
I was pleased to note many links to this fine article by Robert Samuelson, The Welfare State's Death Spiral. Frank Ross, over at Big Journalism, picked up on the article and provided some important charts on welfare. Ruby Slippers gets it.
While plenty of people see the present government as unsustainable, way too many folks think it can be fixed with an election. The best we can hope for is a few years to prepare for what is inevitable.
Now for some really important stuff:
Allow me to thank all the people who have voted for me (and actually admit it in public) at the Cannonball Catholic Blog Awards.
My friend Sarah, over at My Wonderful Life, could use some votes in the Most Under-Appreciated Blog. Sarah and her hubby Subvet, are parents of three beautiful special needs children. It's beautiful to witness the joy these children bring to their parents.
In Sarah's words taken from her blog:
I still need votes (lots and lots) so head over and click on my name for best political blog. You can vote every day this entire week. Ask your co-workers to take a moment to vote. Email your relatives and friends with a link.
I have so much more to say, but alas and alack, my garden calls. When you have five acres (three in gardens), your work is never done.

People are starting to wake up ...
While cruising around the news sites and blogs, I've noticed a gradual awakening to the true state of our country and the world. While there is plenty of blah-blah about Elena Kagan (and who she prefers to sleep with), more and more folks are asking questions that strike at a deeper understanding of the world we live in. Guess what folks - it's the same world humans have been living in ever since the Garden of Eden, and we know what happened there, don't we?
Listen to Fuzzy Logic, whose logic really isn't fuzzy, as she asks the questions about Obama's most recent stirring up of racial unrest:
Over the next week or two, I'll explore my reasons for believing that our country as we know it, is going to crash. It is inevitable. The sooner we get there the sooner we can commence rebuilding. There will be a "new world order", but not the one the puppet masters have in mind.
There will be massive change. To think that the elections later this year and in 2012 will change anything is to require willful suspension of disbelief. The inevitable is this: It matters not who is in office except to determine the forward speed of our demise. Am I being pessimistic? Not at all. I'm being realistic. Step back from the chattering and constant distractions and start looking at the big picture. Start asking your own questions.
I am nominated in the category of best political blog. Pitted against such heavy weights as Creative Minority Report and The Anchoress has put me in the position of buying votes. Yes - you heard that right. It works for our present day politicians and should work just dandy for moi.
Here's the deal. For every vote you cast for me, which you can and should do every day for the entire week, you will receive a link and feature article on this blog. The cash value of this voucher is < .01 and the prestige value is bupkis. How the heck can you pass up a deal like that? It's better than anything the government is offering.
I also have friends in important places nominated in multiple categories. LarryD (Acts of the Apostasy) is nominated in five categories.
Larry has not reached the stage of vote buying yet, but he is promising to donate all prize money to charity, or something.
From Larry:
Listen to Fuzzy Logic, whose logic really isn't fuzzy, as she asks the questions about Obama's most recent stirring up of racial unrest:
"And perhaps most importantly, what is his real goal in stirring up racial and social unrest? Surely it's not just for votes as so many are arguing. That may play a part in it, but it can't be the whole reason. What is he up to? Why does he want the people of the country he leads at each others' throats, on the brink of violence? What does he stand to gain? These are the questions I keep turning over in my head, but I don't have an answer yet."Matthew Vadum is asking why we're bailing out socialist Greece.
Why is the United States involved in a futile scheme to bail out the basket case economy of Greece, which despite its membership in the European Union, is a borderline third world socialist country?Even Ed Morrisey over at Hot Air asks:
Could the instability in the EU with the failure of Greece spread to the US?and offers an answer from Paul Ryan.
Here, let’s simply discuss the ostensibly equitable posture that tax increases and spending restraint should occupy similar places on the negotiating table. At first glance, this would seem to establish a reasonable symmetry between negotiating positions.
But that picture would be very wrong. The merest glance at the numbers reveals a very different reality. First, let’s look at the long-term budget picture under current law as seen by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
And now Fannie Mae seeks $8.4 billion from govt after loss and the Wall Street slot machine handle is working overtime as Stocks surge on effort to ease Europe debt crunch.A quick glance at this graph reveals that the long-term problem is not one of inadequate revenues. If we don’t change the law so as to reduce tax growth, Americans will be taxed as they have never been taxed before. see the Paul Ryan video at Right Scoop

Your Major Distraction for the Day
is not the illegal immigrants, Elena Kagan, Obama playing golf while oil is seeping onto our shores, kids wearing flag T-shirts, or crazy Muslims with bombs. No siree Bob. This distracition is the only one that counts. The Annual Cannonball Catholic Blog Awards

So while you're over there voting for me (every day!!!), take a moment and click on the little ball next to Acts of the Apostasy.Just to remind you - AoftheA has been nominated in 4 categories (well, it's actually 5, but I've agreed to not tell anyone that I've also been nominated in Best Underappreciated Blog, so I won't say anything about that) - Most Hifreakinlarious, Snarkiest, Most Church Militant, and Most Bat Sh!t Crazy.
Currently, AoftheA is 2nd in Hifreakinlarious; 3rd in Snarkiest; 4th in Church Militant; and 3rd in Most Bat Sh!t Crazy. And in the category I've promised to never ever mention, I'm currently 3rd. With your help, I can surge past my opponents and not look like such a failure.
