I Prefer to Buy My Own Health Insurance

There seems to be little talk anymore about the reasons employers are providing health insurance for their employees.  During WWII, wage controls were put in place.  In order to circumvent this, employers started offering health insurance and other benefits.   The IRS agreed not to treat such benefits as taxable income.  This changed the way people paid for health care.

One of the most important changes that needs to be made is the way we pay for our health care.  Employers should not be providing health insurance.  If we had a free market, people would be able to choose the type of coverage they wanted.  They could sit down with an agent and choose from a large number of basic plans.  With that decision made,  the agent could open up the "options" book.  Want to be covered for chiropractic?  Great - that will be $25.00 per month.  Want hang-nail coverage?  $350.00 per month should cover that.  It wouldn't take long for folks to figure out health care is not "free."  No longer would people be slaves to a job they loathed because they were afraid to lose their coverage.

Do I think ObamaCare will pass? Actually, I don't.  However, to be on the safe side, we are socking away money like crazy so if we need to engage in a bit of medical tourism, we'll be prepared.  I suggest you do the same.  Because if this passes, your choices will be severely limited.

From the Washington Times:

WOLF: Obama family health care fracas
"Primum nil nocere."First, do no harm. This guiding principle is a bedrock of medical care. Sadly, those politicians who would rewrite our health care laws do not live in the same universe as do the doctors and health care professionals who must practice it.  read the rest

I have to say that having our healthcare tied to
my husband's work is nothing short of totally annoying. He would love to move on, but we have such a great health plan that we keep putting it off! *sigh*

Thank you, I've been saying that, employers are not responsible for your health, you are :)...enough with the nannying, if people don't make responsible choices, that's their problem
