Are the people living in the White House completely insane?

that was a rhetorical question.

Millions of people are out of work and Obama constructs a gingerbread White House out of 350 pounds of white chocolate-covered gingerbread.  Let's not forget the larger-than-life rendering of the first family's dog Bo, made of 40,000 twisted black and white pipe cleaner.

Barack had that many pipe cleaners left from his crack days? I am looking for something to explain his mental problem.....

Yeah, but they created a job for a pastry chef. . .

What I can't figure out is why Lefties don't count these people among the undeserving rich.

I'm not sure what is upsetting you about this. Far more lavish things have been done with Christmas in the White House in other administrations. I'm not sure if it's that there is beautiful gingerbred house in the White House, or that our President didn't make it himself.

The unemployed you lament are going to have a cold hard holiday in part due to the GOP trying to trade the suffering of these poor to continue to let the most rich in the nation keep more of their easily earned money.

The question shouldn't be rhetorical. And the answer is yes...

There's been a gingerbread house ever year since Bess Truman and besides the decorations are done by volunteers.

I'm disappointed that it doesn't look like a gingerbread house. This could have been made of any kind of cookie.

I don't see how volunteers could make this house or BO, so that comment puzzles me. I do think there would have been some tact in having a less huge house this year. After all, most gingerbread houses do not get eaten. One doesn't have to go spectacular in order to continue a tradition.

As for you, Charlene, some of us to lament the situation of the poor. It is much more complicated than your remark implies. I wish it was as easy a matter to solve.

Just read this is the largest gingerbread house in the White House in history -- wonder why BO&MO felt it necessary to top 'em all who came before -- could it be a lack of real class?

So let me see if I understand this.

The largest gingerbread house ever to grace the White House is sponsored by the same incumbent who will sign the legislation which may severely limit school bake sales. 9You recently posted on it using this as a source; http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101203/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_bake_sales_5 )

So while earnestly micromanaging how the nation's kids eat (because we all know that parents can't be trusted), our Idiot-in_Chief and his lovely bride have a monumental fat pill put on display in the White House.

Is there something wrong with this picture? Somebody help a retired turd chaser from the sub force out, okay?

The sanity of the residents of the White House this year are no more insane than the residents of the White House in past years. The gingerbread house this year is not the most spectacular of all the other administration houses previously. I recall the year this design was first used and Mrs. Bush was gave a tour to the Martha Stewart Show's viewers.

Solving the problem of poverty is not simple.

In often quoted words from JC, "The poor will always be with us." Though I couldn't verify it exactly by searching for it. Regardless of that I don't believe it is Christian or even moral to be rich [Remember the statement that a rich man is more likely to fit through the eye of a needle than go to heaven?]

As Christians we should be giving a large portion of our family profits to the poor. You say there are no profits in our home budgets? Then we should be living in a smaller house, eating less, driving less, walking more, doing whatever it takes to have a profit to which we can give help to the poor. Face it, being successful is not a right, Christian or otherwise. If as a rich person you decide not to cut back and give a lot of money to the poor, then you should be glad to pay more in taxes for you have profited from the country that you are in.

Sorry, Charlene, but it is the largest gingerbread house ever to be in the White House and this is a period in which symbolic restraint would be a nice thing to see. Of course, the hypocrisy of the "simple gifts" theme for this year's Christmas is grating coming from a couple who parties and travels and has expensive "date nights." Perhaps it would be less offensive if there was some action to suit their words -- such as a modest gingerbread house? Do you see what I mean?

And, please, don't tell me how to live as a Christian or what my reaction should be to taxes. You are assuming that people who post here are not among the poor or economically stressed.

You seem to want it both ways -- defending the Obamas for their lavish lifestyle -- and then attacking posters for hypothetically not spending their money their way that you want and hypothetically not having what you view as the "proper" attitude toward taxes. If the Obamas can live like a Queen and King, why can't others spend their money as selfishly and receive your warm defense?
