Sarah on the Oprah Show

It's taken just a small amount of time to skim about 20 articles about Sarah Palin's much anticipated appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.  They range from fawning adulation to overt derision.  Sandwiched in between these two extremes are the pseudo-intellectual meanderings of people vetting every word and inflection of not only Sarah, but Oprah.

Is there no one who will just say the truth?  It was nothing more than an appearance of a woman, who appeared to be telling the truth, on a fluffy daytime talk show.  It was not worthy of adulation, and it certainly didn't deserve to be castigated.  Sarah seemed to be honest and was very charming. Nothing more or less.

Have we lost our ability to see the obvious?   Things really can be simple.   Occam knew that, and so do I.  My favorite saying has always been, "Let's cut to the chase."  That's one of the reasons I detest meetings.  A group of folks in a meeting will rarely "cut to the chase." They form steering committees instead.

I think Sarah knows all about Occam's Razor and my bet is that she too, wants to "cut to the chase."

Update:  Here's one article I hadn't read yet (because it was just published)
My hat is tipped to Stacy McCain for his great article in American Spectator:

Palin's Popularity vs. Media Mania

I didn't watch the interview, not being much of a fan of Oprah. I am planning on reading Palin's book, however. How about you?

Heaven's I didn't watch the interview....CANNOT STAND Oprah!!! Sheesh what an ego! But I know that our Sarah did famously as usual otherwise all the 'elite' libs wouldn't be whining so much about it.

Hugs!!!

I can't stand Oprah either but I made an exception in this case.

Ebeth - you can probably watch it online but really - it was a "non-event". Although to watch Sarah masterfully answer questions may be worth the time. I enjoyed it...

Mark - on my way to Costco right now...

Adrienne, Let us know what you think of the book. I never have time to read. This week I have to refinish 6 bar stools.
I appreciate the way that you think and I would respect your opinion over many others.

I have never been a fan of Oprah, quit watching her many years ago. I did watch this interview, though..only because I couldn't sleep so I was flipping through channels to see if I could find something interesting to watch. I missed some of it, but what I saw wasn't anything that would make me want to watch it again. I know that Oprah did all she could to get Sarah to say something nice about Obama (that was early in the interview) and I think Sarah did say she appreciated that he said to leave the kids out of the debates and the media. Of course, he never stepped in to tell his Obots to back off when they were skewering Sarah's daughter and infant son.

I did notice today that just about every Obot blog has posts and disgusting photo-shopped pics of Sarah today. That pretty much shows you the lack of morality that has taken over the Democratic Party. I'm ashamed to say that I was once a Democrat...never again. I'm sticking to "Independent" and hoping we can get some politicians to run who aren't a bunch of corrupt thugs looking to stick their grubby hands in our pockets.

I watched it while I was at the YMCA doing the treadmill. I tell you, Sarah is one sharp cookie. Much smarter than her detractors watn to admit. I found Oprah cool, aloof, and almost bored by it. I could tell she wasn't fully engaged the way she is with other guests who she's "connecting" with. Today on Rush's show, he claimed Oprah's numbers were down and this was a way to boost her ratings. However, he also said O's fans were upset she was having Palin on and sent O a truckload of hate mail over it.

Sarah, though, was very gracious and maneuvered well through the questions. Not once did she come off as defnesive, even laughlinly saying "Yes, he's invited" when asked about inviting Levi. (Her daughter's ex, who now is the father of the new baby) for Thanksgiving dinner. Although Oprah tried hard to paint Sarah as naive and disingenuous, Sarah rose above by admitting her faults and perhaps being too trusting in some instances.

I ordered the book and it should e here in a few days. Plus, Sarah will be in Columbus this Friday and yes, I'm going to see her, hopefully with ther book in my hand to get an autograph. If I can take photos, I will and post on my blog. :-)

For the record, I loathe meetings! Like you, I want to "cut to the chase" and IMO, most meetings could be summed up in an email. Too few in these meetings know how to summarize their points. Our saleswoman was told by a former boss, "I asked for the time, not how to build a watch." She laughs and claims she was hired to talk. Um. Not that much. Really. (sheesh!)

Regarding meetings; If Moses was a committee the people of Israel would still be in Egypt.

Regarding Palin & Oprah; Palin is going for the exposure in preparation for whatever is in her plans. Oprah is trying to appear fair and balanced plus boost her ratings.

Just my two cents and probably not even worth that.

I'm with Mary Ellen...forget about being dedicated to either party; let's find someone with sanity who isn't interested in "kissin" you know what...
This whole Levi Johnston thing is such a set-up; what a creep and a loser. He can't even begin to talk any sense and why should we believe his crap?
And as for the McCain crowd...give me a break.
This woman is obviously creditable and sincere.
So what if she has some warts? Don't we all?
But I'll tell you what; she accepted her child with disabilities with such courage and self-giving that no matter what anybody says, she's a heroine in my book.

Belinda, my precious - I have the book in my hot little hands. Costco had a dedicated center aisle display stacked high with the book.

And..............Sarah is coming to Coeur d' Alene!! I'll be going...

Mary Ellen - Independent it is for anyone who gives a darn about this country...

Mary Rose - My impressions of the interview were exactly the same as yours. Exactly!

nazareth priest - Levi made some really, really stupid statement today about what loser Sarah is and how he is much more credible. Oh my - just wait until his 15 minutes of fame are over.

What a trial to be saddled with that creep for the rest of your life like the Palin family will be. Todd Palin should take him out behind the woodshed and beat the carp out of him. Levi gives new meaning to TSTL (too stupid to live)

Adrienne said...

Subvet - you've summed it up quite nicely. Thing is though - Oprah came across as mean and uninterested. Sarah won that round hands down...

I love Sarah Palin, but I can't tolerate Oprah and refuse to watch her show, I'll wait for Sarah to appear on Hannity tonight:-)

Fr. John Mary, ISJ said...

Adrienne: Couldn't have said it better...the 'woodshed thing' might be the only thing to knock some sense into good ole Levi...but he's too busy taking off his clothes and looking like a stud...yechh!

ignorant redneck said...

Yeah! that's the long and short of it!

Adrienne said...

IR - Called "cutting to the chase", doncha know!
;-)

And one more stupid thought from me:
If Levi thinks he's gonna be anything other than a "media whore", he better think it over...
what a loser, I mean, what can this idiot possibly think he is going to gain from being a "tattler" (of dubious information) or a "peice of meat" in 'Playgirl'...I mean, really?

hubby bought TWO copies of her bookt he other day.

but heads up to folks looking for autographs. at most of these appearances she will not sign books that weren't bought at the store hosting the signing. So you may have to get another copy to have signed.
