Naturally Huff and Puff couldn't wait to publish this. And don't even try to come in here and ballyhoo anything about an ectopic pregnancy. It's not the same thing (see below.) Nancy Pelosi is a disgrace to the Catholic faith and does great harm to women. The fact that she is allowed to receive communion and has not been publicly denounced by her bishop is also a disgrace.
Die on the floor? What in hell is this foolish woman talking about? The bill simply says that we the taxpayers don't wish to pay for abortions, the vast majority which are procured for matters of convenience. Is there anything complicated about that? And while we're at it - I don't want to pay for your birth control, either. Let's not leave out the guys. You can pay for your own Viagra, too!Ahead of Thursday's House vote on the so-called "Protect Life Act," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali.) called the bill a "savage" attack on women's health. If passed, H.R. 358 would free anti-abortion hospitals from the legal responsibility of providing a life-saving abortion procedure to a pregnant woman who is dying.
"When the Republicans vote for this bill today, they will be voting to say that women can die on the floor, and health care providers do not have to intervene," Pelosi said at a press conference. "It's just appalling. This is a health issue, and it falls right in there with a lot of other initiatives that they had coming up on the floor about clean air, clean water, mercury -- you name it. source
Is Abortion Ever Necessary to Save a Woman’s Life?
Abortion is never necessary to save a woman’s life. Four hundred and eighty physicians have signed a public declaration stating: “I agree that there is never a situation in the law or in the ethical practice of medicine where a preborn child’s life need be intentionally destroyed by procured abortion for the purpose of saving the life of the mother.”
What the Catholic Church teaches about abortion:Source: American Life League. Declaration: Protecting the Life of the Mother. http://all.org/article.php?id=10682. abortion facts
The Church's unfailing teaching on abortion is very clear indeed – to directly procure an abortion or to assist in the procuring of an abortion (by performing it, assisting in the performance of an abortion, or by encouraging or paying for another to have an abortion) is considered to be a grave sin. It is considered to be on the same level as murder, as it is – in fact – the murder of an innocent human being who cannot defend him or herself in any way.
An abortion carried out with the express purpose of aborting the child is always considered to be a grave sin – regardless of whether or not the child is the product of rape or incest, or the child will be born with birth defects.
If a medical procedure is carried out which is deemed by competent medical professionals to be vital to the survival of the mother which may possibly or definitely will result in an abortion, then this is not a sin provided that the abortion of the child is not an expressly desired result. For example, if a woman has an ectopic pregnancy (where the baby develops outside the womb) and her doctors determine that the only way to ensure her survival is to remove her fallopian tube (killing the baby in the process) then that is not a sin because the death of the child is not desired. If is an unavoidable consequence of the procedure to save the mother's life.
Update:
Another "Catholic" speaks:
(Floor Action) — Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) on Thursday charged House Republicans of misogynous motives in bringing up a bill that seeks to limit federal funding for abortion.
These women are just horrible, horrible people!“What my colleagues on the other side of the aisle are attempting to do is misogynist,” Speier said on the House floor. “It is absolutely misogynist.”
“This bill goes to the farthest extreme in trying to take women down, not just a peg, but to take in shackles to some cave somewhere,” Speier said. “Basically what this bill would do is say that any hospital could decline to provide services to one class of people in this country, and that one class of people are pregnant women.” H/T Weasel Zippers
