Baby Joseph Maraachli flown to Missouri for care... w/ Update

thanks to Father Frank Pavone and the Priests for Life.

The baby who was hours from being pulled off life support at his Canadian hospital has been rescued by the national director of Priests for Life and taken to the U.S. for treatment. read the rest

I have no idea what was driving the decisions of the Socialized medical "care" field in Canada with their repeated denials for the family of baby Joseph to have a tracheotomy before he was returned home so he could breathe on his own.  It would have been far more economically and ethically sound to perform the tracheotomy and release the child to his parents, compared to the additional time spent in the hospital arguing and holding court hearings.

A tracheotomy is a rather simple procedure that can be performed on the battle field with a pen knife, and it would be a reasonable and usual treatment for a baby with Joseph's condition. It's not like the parents were requesting any extraordinary care.  The only thing extraordinary going on is the battle the Canadian doctors are waging in order to remove baby Joseph's ventilator so he can die by suffocation.

Update:

Teresamerica has a wonderful and heartwarming batch of photos up - and we thank her!

Hmmm . . . I posted this already, but for some reason it didn't make it on to your site. Perhaps this time it will "take."

As I noted in my original post, your piece leaves out many facts. First of all, Joseph was admitted to the hospital in mid-October. He was immediately put on life support. During the four months he was in the hospital, doctors did every test possible and consulted with pediatric medical experts who all agreed that the child was severely brain damaged and could not breathe on his own. Medical doctors were left with the sad duty of having to inform the parents that there was no hope for the baby and that the best course was to remove him from life support and allow him to die. Traching Joseph would not mean he would be able to breathe on his own, as you suggest. It is not a simple procedure: it is painful and would increase the risk of Joseph incurring infection and pneumonia. Joseph's sister, Zina, who died of the same condition several years earlier, was trached and had to be treated in hospital several times for infection before her death.

The hospital offered to return Joseph to his home, along with whatever medical personnel necessary, before removing him from life support and placing him in his parents' arms so he could die in his home, surrounded by his loved ones. The parents refused.

It is a sad truth that there is no hope for this child to ever achieve any sort of meaningful life. He will die without artificial medical machinery to support him. It is also a sad reality that this poor child has become an instrument for furthering political agendas. Shame on everyone who uses this poor baby's situation in such a cold and calculating way.

Now, maybe this time you will actually publish my comments so people can view the facts and come to their own conclusions.
