Silent Spring

Dr. Zero has posted a great article about Silent Spring by Rachel Carson.  I read that book when it was first published and bought the story line hook, line, and sinker.  To be fair,  I was 17 years old and had not developed the ability to discern incoming information to the degree I have now.

Silent Spring, and the DDT scare,  started for me what was to become one frightening scenario after another.  By the time we got to "eggs are full of cholesterol and will kill you meme," I had become much smarter.  I kept right on eating eggs.  And sure and heck, the "experts" decided maybe eggs weren't all that bad.

Remember radon?  They're still blathering on about that.  I remember a guest at one of my dinner parties asking if I worried about radon.  Every guest at the table just sat there looking at her wondering what to say.  After a moment I said, "Oh sure.  I worry about radon killing me every time I light up a cigarette."

And now, of course, we have global warming with us humans cast as the bad guys in this doomsday drama.  How long are we going to wait until the MSM reports anything that is remotely contradictory to this theory?

funny story...just yesterday our house sup said "and now we can't have canned tomatoes anymore because the acid in the tomatoes causes some chemical reaction with the metal and then.....which'll kill you."...honestly I missed the middle part cuz my brain started oozing out my ears and I had to tilt my head to keep all the important parts in.

I told her to just wait....every couple years they change their minds about what'll kill ya. look at coffee...it's good...it's bad...it's good...

and people have been eating canned tomatoes since cans were invented for goodness sakes!
