Obama Speaks - Again...

Joe Wilson calling Obama a liar may have been a bit raucous for a joint session of Congress, but I can certainly understand what caused the man to erupt. Once again the American public heard the president of the United States attack private citizens.

As Doug Ross observes Forget Joe Wilson: Barack Obama called Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin Liars Last Night

And How About Scary Stuff?

I particularly liked it when the president said:

But what we've also seen in these last months is the same partisan spectacle that only hardens the disdain many Americans have towards their own government. Instead of honest debate, we've seen scare tactics.
And then proceeded to say:
Our collective failure to meet this challenge -- year after year, decade after decade -- has led us to the breaking point. Everyone understands the extraordinary hardships that are placed on the uninsured, who live every day just one accident or illness away from bankruptcy
There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot get coverage. In just a two-year period, one in every three Americans goes without health care coverage at some point. And every day, 14,000 Americans lose their coverage. In other words, it can happen to anyone.
Those who do have insurance have never had less security and stability than they do today.
Everyone in this room knows what will happen if we do nothing. Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it the most. And more will die as a result. We know these things to be true.
But my favorite was this:
If you misrepresent what's in this plan, we will call you out.
Mr. President, the American people, at least those that weren't watching reruns of old football games, listened while you piled one lie on top of another. What I find truly scary is you tell lies that can be so easily refuted. Do you truly think by speaking in a harsh tone and metaphorically shaking your finger at us, you will be allowed to say the most outrageous things without a backlash? Well, you've been called out, and we don't like what we've heard.

The thing that kills me, haven't there always been folks w/out health insurance? Why this panic now? Is it because the recession caused so many to lose their jobs and therefore, their health insurance? What gives, and why so much desperation to pass this bill "right now!" ?? Isn't it better to be slow and steady than to rush into things?
