At Last

****I have found a tea I can live with. My hubby and I have been drinking Tazo Awake Tea for quite a few years. We love it's strong black tea flavor. What we haven't been pleased about is the price. About the cheapest you can snag a box of 20 teabags for is $3.28.

****Yesterday, after reading the ingredient list of every box of tea on the shelf at WalMart, (yes, I know - it's not my favorite store either and I apologize), I decided to try Tetley British Blend tea. To our delight, it is quite good and is a very decent substitute for Tazo Awake. At $2.28 for a box of 80 it is a significant savings.

**** Why is this important? Glad you asked. Well dear readers, when President Obama gets through "stimulating" (sounds sort of erotic, doesn't it) the economy with his pork (sorry for the vision) filled bill, you'll be using your tea bags twice, that is, if he even allows you to have one.

Well, we buy Lipton tea from Costco. A little milk, a little Stevia, and it is quite tasty. And inexpensive too!

I also like Red Rose for black tea. I am partial to ginger-lemon tea as well (Stash is a good blend). If you ever pass by a Trader Joe's, you might want to stop and get some of their Irish Breakfast Tea, either regular or decafinated. We sometimes drink the decafinated stuff at night, and it is very, very good.

Cheers!

I almost bought Red Rose instead of Tetley. I may still try it. If I don't like it I can always dump it up at church. For some reason I can't stand Lipton. I think it's too pale...

Don't take this to the bank........but I think putting milk in your tea negates the affects of the antioxidants.

Besides milk in hot tea ranks right up there with sugar (or Stevia) in iced tea (IMHO). Ugggh!

When I first moved to Texas and saw people dump about a half cup of sugar in a glass of tea I was horrified.

Well this is very good; I must look to see if we have this brand up here. I really would like to put more "frugal" thinking into everything, and my family seems to be on board with that. Frugality and simplicity are two things I'm striving for this year, and for long-term.

My darlings love Red Rose tea. Mostly because of the cute little Wade pottery animals they've been putting in the packages for 'prize inside box'. I also love Bigelow teas, not so pricey as Tazo.

Well, I will try your new tea next time around. It won't be long since we all love our tea in the morning and one after dinner. Maybe two if it's chilly outside.

We also have way too many herbal teas in our cabinet. My oldest fell in love with Lipton's Orange Herbal tea. And I can't find it. Amazon is OUT!

It appears that this winter has provided perfect tea drinking weather here in Florida. Cold, chilly and yet no snow.

Thank you for the advice on getting that dog. Although tears won't help.

I vote for Red Rose! Another really good one is Dilmah.

Well I guess with so many votes for Red Rose I'll have to try it.

Prizes in the box??? Darn I didn't know that. Changes everything...

Great last (Constant) comment!

(Sorry - I had to get that pun in there!)

Sorry Larry D, I'm going to add my 2 cents. :)

Adrienne, I don't know if you'll like Red Rose, because it isn't very strong. It does taste better than Lipton. You are right; you can always donate to the church.
Tetley is sooooo much better!

Tetley is extremely expensive here, so I always look for it at the Canned Food Outlet or buy several boxes when it is on sale. Irish Breakfast is really good, too.

To Gabrielle: one Tetley tea bag makes a lovely (4 cup) pot of tea. Let it steep.

I like my tea really strong without sweetener or milk, so I use one Tetley tea bag in my cup. My teeth will probably turn black.

My favorite for ice tea? Luzianne. It is specially blended for making ice tea. (I don't like it hot.) The only problem with Luzianne is that seldom available here. My brother sends it to me from Georgia. Laura, can you get it where you live?

Not only are we (most of us?) conservatives - we drink tea. Now, how about a tea party?

Pack - well now I feel better. You have no idea of how hard a simple decision between two boxes of tea can be for an adult with ADD.

So after I made my decision for Tetley everyone is saying Red Rose. I made me feel so much like a loser.

How much do you pay for Tetley? How could the price be that different from mine?

Adrienne: Do you like Lapsang Souchong? Republic of Tea makes a very good blend of it. Lapsang is a smoky black flavor. Republic of Tea is loose tea-no bags-so you'd need a tea ball or spoon for it.

Adrienne, Tetley is $3.99 for a box of 80 bags here - when they have it. A couple of times I found it at Albertson's in Clarkston for 2 for $5.00, but usually it is $3.89 a box. I haven't thought to look at WalMart because Lewiston's store only has a very small selection of groceries.

Groceries are expensive here and in Lewiston/Clarkston. I watch for sales and stock up.
