Inspiration Saturday...

but first, take a moment to say a prayer for the family of Alfie Evans who passed away.
Alfie James Evans was a baptized Catholic, like his father. His mother belongs to the Reformed tradition. If a baptized child before the age of reason dies, he goes straight to heaven, according to Catholic teaching.
“Baptized and under ‘the age of reason’, he does not need our prayers,” tweeted Dr Joseph Shaw, a Catholic ethicist at Oxford University. “His family, and everyone else involved, do.” source
Moving on:

It's a cool rainy day here after a week of above average temps.  We even hit 81° yesterday.  Since my tree pruning and bush whacking is curtailed I will spend part of today cleaning my office which has turned into a jungle of crapola.

If you need a bit of inspiration for your own decluttering journey, Anthony Ongaro from Break the Twitch packs a whole lot of the aforementioned inspiration into the following short video.

Cute Rocky as a puppy and
Anthony's equally cute wife, Amy

His YouTube channel has a bucket full of short useful videos to get you in the mood.  Word of warning:  Do not, I repeat - do not spend the next hour or two watching his videos (even if you fall in love with his too cute doggie, Rocky.)  Scroll through and find one that addresses something that may be challenging you and watch it and maybe one more.  After that, go do what you need to do.  Capisce?

And if you find yourself spending waaaaaaaay more time on social media lately (guilty!), Anthony can help with that too.

Amazon Today

Save on Keurig K-Select and Peet's K-Cups

I have no idea if these are good deals since I don't have a Keurig, but if you do have one or want one, you'd know.

Great deals in Health and Personal Care

When you purchase an item through my links, I receive a small commission - at no additional cost to you.  Just think - you'll be helping to pay for the additional $1600.00 cataract surgery above what insurance is paying.   Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy?

What are your favorite non-political sites to visit...

because we all need a break.

We all have sites we visit that lift us up, inform us, and generally make life better.  While I think we all spend too much time on the internet, there is no getting away from the fact it has given us a world of information at our fingertips.

A good example is Project Gutenberg which has made over 56K ebooks available for free.

I'm interested in where you hang out when you're not being annoyed over the latest outrage the left has perpetrated on us dirt peeps.

I'll start.

Just a few days ago I cleaned out my Feedly of many blogs that I no longer care to frequent.  It has made my life much better.  One of the categories in my feed is labeled "inspiration" and here are some notable blogs that made the cut.

The one characteristic all of these people share is their ability to impart information without being preachy, and they all seem to be outstandingly nice people.

Cal Newport

Cal is the author of Deep Work - a book I haven't even read yet and probably won't, but that doesn't change my liking his blog. He's a young guy (when you're my age everyone is young), but I like his approach:
I'm a computer science professor who writes about the intersection of technology and society. I’m particularly interested in the impact of new technologies on our ability to perform productive work and lead satisfying lives. If you’re new to my writing, a good place to start is the about page. You can access over a decade's worth of posts in the blog archive.
Quo Vadis

A site about planners, paper, pens, and writing. I have yet to encounter a notebook, a piece of paper, or a pen I didn't covet.  Quo Vadis feeds my obsession.

Break the Twitch
I’m Anthony Ongaro, the guy behind Break the Twitch. I live in The North—Minneapolis, specifically—with my lovely wife, Amy. We started exploring intentional living, learned about minimalism shortly after, and have been designing our ideal lives together ever since. We enjoy traveling to new places, making videos, listening to music, and hanging out with our dog Rocky.
J.T Ellison
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author J.T. Ellison writes standalone domestic noir and psychological thriller series, the latter starring Nashville Homicide Lt. Taylor Jackson and medical examiner Dr. Samantha Owens, and pens the international thriller series “A Brit in the FBI" with #1 New York Times bestselling author Catherine Coulter. Cohost of the EMMY Award-winning literary television series A Word on Words, Ellison lives in Nashville with her husband and twin kittens.
Bulletproof Writing by Deena Nataf
I’m a book and journal editor with thirty years of experience in the field. If you write to publish, I want to help you get that first draft written, that manuscript finished, and that book out the door. If you write for yourself, I’ll give you the tools you need to write clearly, write regularly, and write in your own voice. But no matter why you write, I’m passionate about helping you make your mark on the world.
Steven Pressfield (who's actually older than me)

One of my new favorites after reading his book The War of Art (highly recommended) is Steven Pressfield, author of The Legend of Bagger Vance and many other fine books.  This guy is very inspirational.

Selfication by Patrik Edblad,

Patrik lives in a small town in the middle of Sweden, Ă–stersund, and absolutely oozes niceness.  I have  benefited much from his books.
The purpose of this site is to break down the science of human flourishing into simple, actionable steps so that you can use them to become the highly effective and healthy person you want to be.
Setting My Intention
Welcome to my blog where I write about simplifying life in small, manageable steps and creating healthy habits. You'll find inspiration, practical tips and community here for the decluttering you're doing in your own life. (whether that's physical, mental, or emotional clutter) Thanks so much for stopping by!

In the category of Art we have:

My Daily Art Display

That title is a bit misleading since the author only posts about once per week.  It's a good thing since each post is looong highlighting a painter including biographical material.

And for healthy living we have:

Mark's Daily Apple
Welcome to Mark’s Daily Apple. My name is Mark Sisson. I founded this site way back in 2006 to fulfill my personal mission: to empower people to take full responsibility of their own health and enjoyment of life by investigating, discussing, and critically rethinking everything we’ve assumed to be true about health and wellness.

So, my favorite dirt peeps - where do you hang out to decompress?

Inquiring minds want to know.

When the world seems to have gone crazy...

it's time to sit back and put things in perspective.

I'm having trouble dealing with the news today.

How about a little inspiration?...

you know you want some.

How to close the gap between ordinary and extraordinary
We usually think the distance between ordinary and extraordinary is a thousand miles.

When we survey where we currently stand and where we’d like to land, the journey feels massive.

The gulf between who we are and who we want to be seems impossible.

The distance between what is and what could be seems overwhelming.

It’s not though. It’s a lot smaller than you think.

And two cups of yogurt reminded me of that recently.  read the rest

A feel good moment...

for an otherwise crappy interesting day.

The little doggie in this video reminds me so much of our dearly departed Sophie.  Often dogs who have been abused act mean out of fear.  I wrote a fairly light-hearted story of Sophie, but the reality is that if a few gals at the shelter had not intervened, we would not have enjoyed many years with the gentlest and sweetest doggie, evah.

God bless the people that care for these abandoned creatures.

Inspiration and wisdom from an eleven year old...

born with Fanconi anemia, Garvan Byrne, died at age 12.  This video was made shortly before he died when he was still 11 years old.

The message is profound...

God Calling

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23

Divine inspiration is another way God speaks to us. The dictionary says it is “inspiration endowed by God upon spiritually gifted persons.” To some degree, we are all spiritually gifted because God made us in His image and likeness.

We have all experienced potential danger averted at the last moment by some unforeseen circumstance. The first thing we are likely to attribute it to is luck when in fact it was the hand of God working in our lives.

It is not enough to know the truth – we must feel it and live it. By actively looking and listening we will learn to see and hear the supernatural inspiration. Just as God gave every animal instincts necessary for its preservation, if we open our hearts and our minds, God will give us the inspiration we need to live as He intended.
