Lucky Friday miner didn’t survive

Lucky Friday miner Larry Marek was killed in a mine collapse on April 15, Hecla Mining Co. announced this morning.

The Coeur d’Alene company has had crews working 24 hours a day since that collapse trying to reach Marek in hopes he survived the cave-in and was trapped behind a massive rock pile.

Without detailing why rescuers believe Marek is dead, Hecla said in an announcement early this morning that “we are heartbroken to report that we now believe Larry was under the fall of ground when it occurred and is deceased.” read the rest

BOISE, Idaho – The operator of a northern Idaho silver mine says workers have recovered the body of a miner who was trapped when a tunnel collapsed nine days ago.

Hecla Mining Co. says the body of 53-year-old Larry Marek was discovered Sunday afternoon. source

Please pray for the trapped miner at the Lucky Friday Mine just up the road from us a piece.  A remote-controlled digging machine just arrived to help with the rescue efforts.

AP  Officials said the machine should be underground by Sunday evening, but it was unclear how soon the process of reassembling the device would be finished or when rescuers would be able to put it to work.
The roof of a tunnel at the Lucky Friday Mine collapsed Friday as two brothers were working, trapping one of the men but the other was able to escape, according to officials and family members. more

Also pray for the repose of the souls who lost their lives in the terrible storms in the south.
