Crappy TV Shows

*****Last night while making dinner, I had the TV in the kitchen ($10.00 used) tuned to that strange show " The Doctors." Now I wasn't watching The Doctors because I think it is a great show. I was watching it because it is now the only channel we receive on this particular TV. It is so old that a converter box can't even be hooked up to it. But I digress.

*****Last night they were touting Embryonic Stem Cell Research as the "end all and be all" of the future. Odd, since Oprah's favorite physician, Dr. Oz, just announced to a rather stunned Oprah and Michael J. Fox, that fetal stem cell research was a "dead issue" and that there were more reliable research methods available. It seems that fetal stem cells have a tendency to develop a "mind of their own" and run a bit crazy. While you think you're getting a liver, you might end up with a big right toe. We won't even take the time to discuss the cancer angle.

*****Well, the bright young talkative doctor on this show was all excited and saying how fetal stem cells could be convinced to become any darn thing we wanted. Why, they could be kidneys or corneas, or even a left big toe to go with the right one you acquired instead of a liver.

The only thing these cells would not become is what they were - a human being!

*****So, on to the next segment about a newlywed couple living in Italy, I believe. After being married only a few months, the groom became quite ill, lapsed into a coma, and was not expected to live. But, but, says she, "we wanted children."

*****Somebody dreamed up the great idea of harvesting this poor guy's sperm so that the young newlywed lady could be artificially inseminated and have the child they had always wanted.

*****The young earnest doctor just erupted in shock and indignation and said, "that's just plain wrong! You can't do such a thing without the consent of the patient."

I don't recall any babies consenting to be big toes, do you??

From the combox at Hot Air:

*****Looks like these Leftist Totalitarians will have destroyed American Democracy in just over 6 months by time they are done. They will have the banks, auto industry, the media and now health care.

*****If ACORN does the Census coupled with the GOP not taking back at least the Senate then forget about 2012. Who will Obama threaten with pitchforks next? My guess eventually the Church, Protestants and Catholics. I think it was Einstein who noted that it was only in the Church that a stand was taken against Germany’s Totalitarians aka Nazis.

More on Lent

I am beyond impressed with the posting on Aggie Catholics about Lent. Marcel put a tremendous amount of work into the post. Included are FAQ about Lent, Lenten suggestions, and great links. There is also two short, but very informative, videos on Lent - one by Father Barron and the other by Cardianl Rigali.

*****In Japan, a woman underwent IVF and was implanted, seemingly a happy pregnancy. Then, things proved to be terribly wrong. read more

We are all on a free-fall down Alice's rabbit hole...

An admitted tax cheat is going to make sure the financial institutions "do the right thing." Riiiight!

Octuplet Watch

****It seems everyone has an opinion about this obviously disturbed single woman who, with the help of in-vitro fertilization (IVF), gave birth to eight babies. On the day of the birth, the msm reported that no pictures were being allowed as she wished to remain anonymous. My first reaction that she was waiting for the highest bidder has proven to be correct.

****I have seen endless debates raging over the morality of this woman, the doctors involved, and the clinic (that I understand she works for). But I have yet to see anyone address the morality of the procedure itself.

****For anyone reading who doesn't know this already, the Catholic Church, for good reason, forbids in-vitro fertilization and calls it a gravely evil act. What this woman did is just the tip of the iceberg of the moral cesspool our world is becoming, because of people demanding to have what they want and not what they need.

What’s Wrong With In-Vitro Fertilization
by Tim Drake

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Catholic teaching has called in-vitro fertilization techniques immoral for decades. But most Catholics still haven't heard the news. read more

In-Vitro Fertilization: Ethical Implications & Alternatives

A Pastoral Letter by Bishop Sean P. O'Malley, OFM Cap.

...That having been said, I now feel compelled to sound an alarm to our Catholic people about the morally problematic aspects of in-vitro fertilization and to call upon our priests, deacons, and teachers to exercise due diligence in faithfully presenting the Church’s teaching on this most serious issue. read more
