Poking the left about health care on Facebook...

is very enlightening.

Kootenai County Democrats shared a link. (Washington Post, A brief look at what the Affordable Care Act is designed to do.)
So what do you think, Kootenai County? Is Obamacare unconstitutional?

    • Brenda McDaniel Is mandatory auto insurance unconstitutional? same difference.

    • Kootenai County Democrats I have heard comparisons to collective immunization, but mandatory auto insurance is an even better example. Thanks, Brenda.

    • Mary Murdock I like this!!!

    • Daniel Schilling I believe it is mandatory to wear our seat belts while driving or riding in autos, or suffer the penalty.

    • Adrienne Streeter Auto insurance is only mandatory if you have a car. Apples and oranges.

    • Cheryl Costigan So Adrienne...bet you're against those pesky mandatory helmet laws, too. Unhelmeted riders sometimes end up incapacitated (TBI's, etc) - and then guess who picks up the tab to care for them when they're hospitalized or institutionalized? (Answer: taxpayers). We can pay up reasonable costs up front to provide health care - or we can have uninsured people using hospital emergency rooms (much more costly) to have their needs met. And... guess who pays? We can be proactive and pass this much needed legislation so people will have access to regular health and wellness care (thereby reducing costs) - or pay at the other end when costs are much more prohibitive.

    • Cheryl Costigan Adrienne.... Also, if you don't want to pay for health insurance under the new plan, you don't have to. You have the option NOT to pay it (although there would be a sanction - I believe it's $95 a year).... Or, if you don't make enough money to cover the health insurance, it would be free. You also could choose a minimalist plan. You could still get health insurance from the provider of your choice.

    • Adrienne Streeter I'm not at all sure what helmets and seat belts have to do with the mandatory purchase of health insurance. It's about forcing someone into commerce in order to regulate under commerce. There are real reforms that are being ignored while we hassle over something that is unconstitutional.
