Sex and Little Children...

For the past few days Abercrombie and Fitch's ad for bikinis with push-up tops for little girls has been going around the blogoshpere.

Pundette has managed to bring up some points that many others have missed - and we thank her.

The sexualization of childhood continues

And then I saw this ridiculous article  Obama says too much testing makes education boring

Really?  Really??
President Barack Obama said Monday that students should take fewer standardized tests and school performance should be measured in other ways. Too much testing makes education boring for kids, he said.
What exactly do you suggest we do instead?  I guess we could hold a mirror up to their nose and if it fogs over pass them on to the next grade. Oh wait, that is what we do.
Obama, who is pushing a rewrite of the nation's education law that would ease some of its rigid measurement tools, said policymakers should find a test that "everybody agrees makes sense" and administer it in less pressure-packed atmospheres, potentially every few years instead of annually.
Ease some of its rigid measurements?  The measurements that say the kids in the USA are dumber than half the developed world?  Are those the measurements he's talking about?

Obama, who has been pushing his education agenda all month, has expressed concern that too many schools will be unable to meet annual proficiency standards under the No Child Left Behind law this year. The standards are aimed at getting 100 percent of students proficient in math, reading and science by 2014, a goal now widely seen as unrealistic.
The Obama administration has proposed replacing those standards with a loftier yet less prescriptive requirement that by 2020 all students graduating from high school should be ready for college or a career.
Ready for college?  Are you talking about the colleges that practice grade inflation or the ones that spend the first two years trying to teach the kids what they didn't learn in 6th grade?

Here's the solution for all this nonsense.  Close that money pit called the department of education, completely privatize the schools, and while you're at it - put the kids in simple uniforms so we don't have to worry about little Betty coming to school looking like the class whore and little Bobby parading around with his underwear hanging out.

If the kids can't acheive the current standards, just lower them some more. There has to be a point where they will finally "succeed".

I started college at the University of Northern Iowa 11 years after I graduated from High School and was shocked that I was being taught things that I had learned in junior high and high school.

Just keep lowering the bar until everyone passes. Simple. That's why we're the way we are. Don't want to hurt anyones fragile ego, ya know....

Losers.

When we are all equally dumb and all equally poor then we can be all equally miserable. Everybody wins. Isn't that great?
