Our President Honors Michael Vick...

From Huff and Puff:

Barack Obama Praises Eagles For Giving Michael Vick A 2nd Chance
Peter King of NBC reported on Sunday that President Barack Obama recently called Jeffrey Lurie, the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, to praise the organization for giving quarterback Michael Vick a second chance.
According to ProFootballTalk, Obama told Lurie that "a level playing field rarely exists for prisoners who have completed their sentences."King also tweeted that Obama "said too many prisoners never get fair 2d chance."
The Eagles signed Vick after he spent 18 months in prison and two months of home confinement for being convicted of running a dogfighting operation.  read the rest
The president of the United States has time to applaud the decision to give Vick a second chance?  This person should never have been allowed to pick up a football and continue his life as though his offense was nothing more than running a red light.

And why?  Because he is so "talented?"  Are you telling me that in a country with a population of over 300 million people there is no one else with the "talent" of Michael Vick?"

From:   LA Examiner published at the time of Vick's release from prison:
Some commentators have argued that Vick should be allowed to play because he “made a mistake” and has now “paid his debt.”  Perhaps these people are under the mistaken impression that all Michael Vick did was fight some Pit Bulls.  But dog fighting, as cruel a crime as it is, is the least of what Michael Vick did.

According to the prosecutor's statement of facts in the case, between 2002 and 2007 Michael Vick and his co-conspirators Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor killed thirteen dogs by various methods including wetting one dog down and electrocuting her, hanging, drowning and shooting others and, in at least one case, by slamming a dog’s body to the ground.

Michael Vick didn't make a mistake. He didn't "make a bad choice." Over a period of five years he forced dogs into deadly fights, and he personally killed, or conspired to kill, thirteen dogs. He didn't pick a quick, painless method of killing, but instead chose a variety of means that qualify as torture. Pit Bulls are powerful dogs. Imagine how hard you would have to work to kill a Pit Bull by forcibly drowning him.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also reports, "Sometimes [the dogs] were starved to make them more vicious in the pit."

And Michael Vick didn’t confine the abuse and killing to his own Pit Bulls.

According to a November 2008 ESPN.com news story, a report prepared by the USDA's inspector general-investigations division revealed that Vick, Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor also put family pet dogs into the ring with trained pit bulls.
The report, dated Aug. 28, 2008, says, "Vick, Peace and Phillips thought it was funny to watch the pit bull dogs belonging to [Vick’s] Bad Newz Kennels injure or kill the other dogs."

This is what Michael Vick engaged in:  warning: graphic and horrifying images

This is Gypsy, a dog used as bait.  Read her story here
Michael Vick allowed pet dogs, cats, and rabbits to be used as bait.  This is a dead dog with his muzzle taped up with duct tape that was used as bait.

And when the dogs couldn't fight Vick helped wet them down and electrocuted them.  Others were strangled,  drowned, or hung until dead.  And our president is happy this person is getting a second chance?  Of course, this is the same man who thinks a baby born alive after a botched abortion should be left to die, alone and in pain, in a janitors closet.  How could we possibly expect more?

Just when you think Obama can't sink any lower....
I am as big a fan of football as anyone, Vick should never have been allowed to play again. Ever.

When you think about what other athletes have done to be shunned by their sport and fans such as Pete Rose with his gambling and Barry Bonds and his steroid use, crimes that really only hurt the perpetrators, what Micheal Vick did equates with what an animal like Hannibal Lector did. He shouldn't even be allowed near a football stadium.

Why am I just not surprised... this makes me so mad and sick to my stomach:(

I think obama wants to be like Vick....

He wants to be black

He wants to be an athlete

He wants to have mad skilz

he wants a second chance.

In reality, Vick wasn't hired back into the NFL in order to give him a second chance. There was no altruistic motive. He was hired back because he can generate money for the owner.

Thank you for posting this, including those horrible pictures. I wrote about this yesterday at that page I run on facebook and was surprised by how many people actually defended this! I will be sharing THIS post there so they can see exactly what they are attempting to defend.

T.G. (Timothy) - thanks for stopping by. A handsome young man is always welcome. I'm old enough to be your grandma so I can say things like that now...

OMG..look at that poor dog.. :( There is something wrong with Barack Obama! He has a serious flaw in his personality and, imo, lacks a certain amount of empathy

Obama is right but the usual demagogues (hear me Fox News?) will hyperbolically beat this horse to death, even inject race (as seen by a few misguided posters above already) to gin up their base.

Sorry, I believe I misspoke. Obama has it all wrong. The religious nutjobs, like Adrienne, are actually correct on this one.

Today at my blog, I wrote about my theory as to why Obama made that inappropriate phone call (along with the thank you call to Dupnik), and I linked to this post here at your blog when referring to the Vick call:

I was an obama supporter but he lost my next vote because of this. He should be calling Best Friends Animal Society and congratulating them or the employers who employ EXONERATED people or people wrongly convicted. We have not heard the last of SickVick. He takes NO responsibility for his crimes of murder. In addition, those who abuse animals abuse children. When will we hear he is abusing his children and gf? SCUMBAG WHO NEVER DESERVES TO PLAY FOOTBALL AGAIN....AND WHEN WILL HE PAY HIS $298K RESTITUTION TO THE DOGS???? He makes millions but can't pay a fine imposed by the court?

How black does your heart have to be to do something like this. Yes, this was a choice. He made it. I can't imagine how.

These pics are horrible and whoever did that should be punished accordingly, but how do you know that these are pics of the dogs that Vick tortured and not just any old pics of dogs being tortured by someone ???????
