San Francisco bans Happy Meals
San Francisco's board of supervisors has voted, by a veto-proof margin, to ban most of McDonald's Happy Meals as they are now served in the restaurants.
Food justice? What the heck is that? The measure will make San Francisco the first major city in the country to forbid restaurants from offering a free toy with meals that contain more than set levels of calories, sugar and fat.
The ordinance would also require restaurants to provide fruits and vegetables with all meals for children that come with toys.
"We're part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice," said Supervisor Eric Mar, who sponsored the measure. "From San Francisco to New York City, the epidemic of childhood obesity in this country is making our kids sick, particularly kids from low income neighborhoods, at an alarming rate. It's a survival issue and a day-to-day issue." read the rest
Shouldn't the board of supervisors of San Francisco be more concerned about the homosexual population "strutting their stuff" in public during gay pride parades? How about closing up the bath houses where men are placing their private parts in unsanitary places? It's much more expensive taking care of someone with AIDS than taking care of a fat kid. Fat people can always lose weight but AIDS is forever - not to mention the "gift that keeps on giving." Or how about the homeless defecating on public streets? I'd call that a pretty big health hazard.
McDonald's is in the business to sell hamburgers - not veggies and fruits. Forcing them to provide fruits and veggies will do nothing more than ensure a full garbage bin. Next they will want to oversee all restaurant menus.
How is it possible for a government agency to dictate to a private company what they must and must not sell? This is an egregious intrusion into the private lives of the citizens of San Francisco and smells suspiciously unconstitutional. The CEO of McDonald's should be lining up their considerable legal team to drag these crazies all the way to the Supreme Court. I would gladly pay an extra .05 per burger to fund that.

Your personal concern about the health of gay people is admirable, however, just as choice is involved in who you love, it is with all others. Hate is more of a choice after all, than homosexuality. SMILE
McDonald's already offers milk and apple slices in lieu of coke and fries. California is such a messed up place!
Charlene - I scoured my post and couldn't find the word "hate" anywhere. And - people are free to love whomever they please. However, inserting their privates into the nether regions of the "one they love" is disgusting, unhealthy, and against the teachings of God. Any questions?
republican Mother - I thought that was so but wasn't sure.
cheers to that,is not so fair. Why blame it all to not so healthy foods when everybody has all their freedom not to eat them.
Buy - exactly right!!
I recken I learned something. "Insertion of your privates into the neither regions of the one you love" is not allowed?
I guess it's time for me to go talk to the pastor at my church about this statement. He being ordained by the Church I would trust his opinion.
