I have an ex-sister-in-law (actually I have many ex-sisters-in-law - but that's another story) who taught in the Minneapolis school system. Her "retirement" - or pension, if you prefer, allows her to teach as a substitute teacher with out affecting her pension payments, sucks in about about 60 to 70K per year. To be fair, I am going by second-hand information, but it has the ring of truth.

Have you seen that site www.illinoisisbroke.com? It examines how the state pensions like the one you mention accounts for 90% of the state's debt.
