Letecia over at Causa Nostrae Laetiae has posted a letter written by Father Brian Harrison, O.S., concerning the Kennedy funeral.
I know many Catholics felt Senator Kennedy should not have had a Catholic funeral at all. However, that is not, nor ever will be our call. I'm sure the Church acted properly in giving him a Catholic funeral.
The fact that it was turned into a televised dog and pony show is another story. A private funeral with a some sort of public memorial would have been more fitting and more in line with the GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal.) The entire affair sent the wrong message to Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
I urge all of you to take the time to read this letter from Father Harrison.
