More Glenn Beck

I find it curious that so many of the heavy hitter blogs are suddenly linking to Mr. Beck, when in the past they have not only carefully avoided him, but often engaged in some outright sneering. Loon, wacko, over-the-top, and overly emotional are just a few of things I recall hearing.

Just as the MSM avoids anything that is the least bit uncomfortable to report until the bloggers and other news sources force them into doing so, so even the right wing wants to distance itself from controversial information until someone like Glenn forces them to take a look.

Is Glenn emotional? Sure, and so what. I think what we have going on in this country is emotional and downright scary. Is he over-the-top? Maybe. Depends on who you ask. Is he a loon or a wacko? Nope.

I've been listening to Glenn for three years. I find him to mostly be passionate and genuine. (And down right entertaining too!) RJW

Good, penetrating observations. I agree. The only issue I have with Beck is that he occasionally has end-of-the-world, Protestant Millenarians on his radio/TV programs, warning of the coming of Antichrist "soon" (i.e. Hal Lindsey types).

If I am correct, Beck is a baptized/born Catholic, but now claims to be a Mormon.

He became a Mormon to help fight his alcoholism.

RJW - I'm with you on Glenn

HH - It's no doubt his theology is a bit mixed up. However, I can understand why he thinks the "end is soon."

As for Hal - when he gets it right, he is very right. When he gets it wrong, it's a disaster.

His book on Islam is excellent. Very simple and easy to understand with plenty of Bible references. Too often folks leave out the Bible when discussing Islam, which is a dangerous and short-sighted thing to do.

Agnes - Speaking as an alcoholic I'm not so sure about the Mormon connection.

I think it was probably more because his wife is Mormon and his Catholic upbringing was weak or even non-existent. Men very often lean toward the religion of their wives.

Now, having found "God" (even the Mormon version), certainly was a helpful step in overcoming his drinking.

But I also predict that as he continues to study and do research on the "state of the world", eventually he will start to study the Father's of the Church and he will wander back to the Catholic faith.

His Catholicism was mostly non-existent. His Mormon conversion was mainly from a friend he met in the depths of his addiction and I believe he met his wife after his conversion. Living in Utah, I find him to be a "typical" convert. Much more open to the larger religious picture.

When he was interviewed on CNN or NBC ? can't remember now, he was asked why he 'abandoned his Catholic faith' He got very upset and said 'I did not abandon my faith, i just found a more suitable one'

I thought that was a very telling comment. I think it's pretty obvious why he joined.

I agree, i think he'll eventually 'wander' back to the Church.
