*****"Most Americans no longer read Alexis de Tocqueville’s masterpiece, Democracy in America, about which I wrote a book (Tocqueville on American Character; from which most of the following is taken) a few years ago. What a pity! No one understood us so well, no one described our current crisis with such brutal accuracy, as Tocqueville." read more

Real and tangible progress for the American people"
by Roger Kimball
*****I could hardly believe it, either. “Real and tangible progress for the American people.” That’s how the current President of the United States, in his weekly address today, described the bloated $800 billion spending monstrosity that he just rammed down our throats. (Please don’t called it a “stimulus” package: the only thing it stimulates is fiscal irresponsibility.) read more
Obama takes a break...
****We know how tiring it can be to spend other people's money. So while a good portion of the country scaled back on their Valentine's celebrations, our hard working President jetted to Chicago for a three day mini-vacation with his lovely bride.
****After eating dinner out at Table Fifty-Two, also a favorite of Oprah, and a restaurant that the majority of this country could not afford, I guess he's just going to "hang out", or maybe play a bit of b ball to rest up from the rigors of flying around the country continuing his never ending campaign.
How does it feel to be a serf??
Meet My New Friend
****
*****My favorite thing about blogging and Facebook, is the wonderful people I have been able to meet. A very nice gentleman (who, as it turns out, is thankfully a bit closer to my age), left a comment on Father Erik Richtsteig's wonderful blog. I was intrigued by what he said and so did some follow up. Pops, as he is known to his friends, hangs out at Conservative Outrage, hidden away somewhere in the great fly-over zone. Head over and say hi! to Pops and his beautiful wife.

I didn't read all of Ladeen's article, but it is truly sad Democracy in America isn't required reading - especially with all the crap (pardon me) that the students are now required to read. I read it in high school and had a mini-refresher course on it when my step-dad reread it a couple of summers ago. His predictions were so accurate.
PS "His predictions" - oops, but make that both de Tocqueville's and my step-dad's predictions. In a way, I am so glad my step-dad is no longer on earth to have to deal with what is going on in the US; it would literally probably kill him.
Love the cat picture.. put a BIG smile on my face:)
Packie - I'm picking up a copy at the library this afternoon. Time I read it again...
Tracy - YOU put a big smile on MY face!

how cool is that!
while you're there, thank both him and his son for their service to our country. Jacob is currently a Paratrooper with the 82nd airborne.
You're gonna like Pops. He's a great friend.
