Take a Ride With Me Down Alice's Rabbit Hole
I'm so stunned as to be rendered speechless (and that's a rare and worrisome happening).

The Stimulus: How to Create Jobs Without Them All Going to Skilled Professionals and White Male Construction Workers
****It's a two-fer: lots of new jobs, and investments in the nation's future productivity.
****But if there aren't enough skilled professionals to do the jobs involving new technologies, the stimulus will just increase the wages of the professionals who already have the right skills rather than generate many new jobs in these fields. And if construction jobs go mainly to white males who already dominate the construction trades, many people who need jobs the most -- women, minorities, and the poor and long-term unemployed -- will be shut out. Read more and if you have time, read some of the comments.
****I love the guy in the combox talking about insulation as the wave of the future. We can solve lots of problems by putting people to work insulating old houses. Just make sure it isn't any white guys getting those jobs.

Of course, the white man gets the shaft again.
Let's talk about those "long term unemployed". Isn't that another term for Welfare people? Do you really think they want to give up their free check and actually work for a living? Especially doing something as degrading as fixing public works. Pleazzze.
I agree w/some of the commentors, make sure these jobs go to legal US citizens only.
Another example of the kind of Marxist thinking that is influencing Obama and the Democrats when it comes to economics. Sadly, Reich's comments also reflect the sort of racist categorization that was present at Obama's inaugural via the Rev. Lowery's benediction ("that white will do what's right," etc.).
What is funiest about this is that the real problem here no one will speak about.
Government does not exist to care for the people and provide for the people. Government is only to keep secure the freedoms this country's constitution promises.
They people who have charge of the government now (dems and repubs alike) think that the people are here to provide them a comfortable living. They have become the worst CEO's and board members of a company that does not produce anything.
The government CANNOT produce, it can only consume. It either has to force others to produce or pay others to produce. Having such a large entity that can't produce on its own make up such a large portion of the GDP is the recipe for collapse. Which is what we are seeing happen!
Simplex - those of us that are old enough to have been actually taught something in school know this.
I want the Feds to do what it is they are supposed to do - guard the borders and take care of the interstate highways (part of taking care of the borders)
