****Take a few minutes and read what Father John Speekman prepared for the Feast of the Holy Family.

****I am always amazed at the amount of money that is spent on kids by their parents. It is not unheard of for parents to pile up Christmas presents costing a combined total approaching the national debt. Karen De Coster in her post "Consumer Kids and Their Plastic Lives" places the blame squarely where it belongs.

****My Irish friend, James Healy, calls for the United Nations to "get lost." I'm all for that! This is a must read for all of you who receive the majority of your news from the MSM (main stream media) Read also what he has to say about the situation in Israel.

That Consumer Kids article was great! My step-cousin emailed her aunt a list that included "a Coach belt" (not a less pricey yet still designer one) and $175 brand name jeans. I know her aunt did NOT get them for her but Grandma might have caved in.

First, yes, the UN is a disgrace and it would probably be in our interest to get rid of it or at least significantly down-grade it as an institution. It is a nest of corruption, incompetence, and despotism.

Second, what a great article regarding the rampant consumerism in our culture. Those children have been poorly served by their parents, no question. That article, though, also got me thinking about my own lifestyle. How often do I engage in a little "retail therapy" at the mall, or at Amazon.com, or a Cabellas? More than I should!
