Broken Modem
*
****So.......my internet went out yesterday just about an hour before my ebay auctions closed. Not good, not good at all.
*
****By the time I talked to Verizon in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and was told someone would be out between 9am and 5pm, my nerves were a bit raw.
*
****Technician gets here at 4pm and within 3 minutes of arrival says, "your modem has issues." Things at Verizon don't break, they "have issues."
*
****"Great, says I, "get out a new one."
*
****"I realize they are small and I could easily carry 30 or 40 on my truck," he says, "but they don't allow that. *You'll have to go to Best Buy or even WalMart unless you want to wait three days for us to mail you one."
*
****Right! WalMart, my favorite shopping experience. *In the meantime I'll scoot down to the library and send out my ebay invoices. Wrong! * The library is closed due to a pipe in the computer room that "had issues", too. *Perhaps my modem and the pipe could get together for a bit of group therapy and work on their issues.
*
****Obviously, the new ($79.95) modem is working. *And on that "issue" - explain to me why I pay Verizon every month for the privilege of using their DSL service and they charge me an arm and a leg for their modem?
*
****Therese over at Aussie Coffee Shop has given me an award but I must wait until later to post it and pass this glorius award on. RCIA class awaits me........

I swear, if I get a person who is NOT in the 50 U.S. States when I call for tech support, I hang up! thank you very much! and call the main HQ for my phone service. I repeat the story of what happened last time I had an "issue" with my computer and the nice gentleman from India decided to send a guy out to check my lines - and it was an issue in their own office that had all my neighbors out of service for about 8 hours... And then I say, "Do you understand why I want to talk to someone who knows what they are doing, and not merely reading from some crap script?"

I've also bought my last modem through my ISP. I think they make outrageous profits off the equipment.

Computers can be a pain, no question. I have a laptop I use for work and about 3 months ago a vacuum cleaner got close to it, and it hasn't worked right ever since. I've had it looked at several times, all to no avail. And talking to tech-support folks is no fun, for all the obvious reasons. So, I sympathize with your plight!

Have you any "viewmaster" stuff over on ebay?

Belinda - No, sorry.

Because of the computer being out I don't have anything up. I like all my auctions to go up on Sunday night for 7 days so I missed my window of opportuniy... I might try some 5 day ones tomorrow.

It's getting way too close to Christmas and sales drop so it makes no sense to list...

Well I am wondering if the outages in the N.E. have made the bids go down. Usually during outages I assumed that it was more of a buyers market. Even though it's almost Christmas. I plan on buying reels in Jan/ Feb. When everyones MasterCard bills come due from Chirstmas. I plan on selling in the spring. Maybe- I have to plan a wedding.

I too have been having "issues" with my wireless signal. I called Qwest and they sent me a new modem but that didn't help. I called again and the pinged the lines and said I sohouldn't have any more problems and that lasted about a day. I started to think the problem was with my desktop where the modem was connected but that doesn't seem to be the problem either. Frustrating!
