Washington voters approve assisted suicide initiative..... If we don't eliminate them before they're born, we can get them at the end.

from the combox: I know, I know - I'm always quoting Mark but, gosh darn, he's such a smart whippersnapper...

****"A good post, but in addition to evangelization and personal renewal, we need to fight in the public square, both as a Church and as individual citizens. The result of this election is due, in part, to the incredibly bad formation that most Catholics have when it comes to the social teaching of the Church. That is the responsibility of the bishops and priests and deacons and catechists who serve the Body of Christ. Our shepherds and teachers need to guide and to teach. And they need to do something about Catholic institutions, including the universities and religious orders, which are cranking out so much bad educational product and theological distortion."

****"Pray for Obama's conversion, but we also have to fight the Democrats in the public square, inch by inch, to stop their barbaric policies regarding human life and their socialist economic policies." A Catholic in Spokane

****Here's the thing, folks. The Church was given to us to lead and sanctify. It's number one job, to put it in very simple terms, is to get us to heaven. When the laity can not tell you what a sacrament is, ceases to believe in the True Presence, and thinks one church is as good as another, you have a big problem. Properly catechized, the social justice will flow from the laity like milk from heaven.

...and read what Mark has to say about the "Fairness Doctrine". There is nothing "fair" about it

from the combox: Rachel Grey over at Infused Knowledge, who has been praying up a storm for the past forty days is back blogging. Welcome back, Rachel

****"Even though I'm younger I can see what you mean about the different world some Americans remember. Simply reading old books or hanging out with decent people will make one realize how boorish and crude most of the world has become.I really identify with what you say in the second paragraph. The fact that Barack Obama will be President is not as sad as the fact that so many Americans were soul-sick enough to vote for him."

"Millions of Britons are appalled by the implosion of British culture, identity, and values. But they find themselves politically disenfranchised, because the Conservative party does not understand that British values are under attack. And Republicans should take careful note of this in order to recognize a similar danger and dilemma facing them following their defeat." excerpt:read whole article

****Not feeling well last night I missed my writing session so today I MUST log in close to 3000 words. Will I do it? Ya betcha!

Thanks for quoting me! I wish I was that much of a whippersnapper, though. I'm 39 at the end of the month...:-(

The election is over -- thank God! And it is time for us to get back to business.

Your post today is in the right direction. Our (that means each of us) job is to pray, evangelize, convert, form, sell all we have and give it to the poor.

Then indeed "...social justice will flow from the laity like milk from heaven," and we all will be very near to the Kingdom of Heaven.

This is the culture of life. By comparison, since politics is secular, according to the Holy Father, it is the culture of death.

Irene,

Your statement displaces an ignorance of Catholic social teaching that is breathtaking. The social teaching of the Church is consistent that Christians have an obligation under the Gospel to participate as citizens in the political order. I suggest you sit down with the relevant encyclicals from Leo XIII, John XXIII, and Paul VI. The Second Vatican Council also called for Christians to transform the world in accord with each person's vocation -- for the laity, we are called to bring the light of the Gospel into the secular world.

Seriously, Irene, if you are going to comment on things from a Catholic perspective, you need to educate yourself about the tradition.
