The reason that he can't be the GOP candidate is that he would make the abortion issue his first priority. This does not sit well with the GOP establishment. The first priority for the GOP must always be the interests of the multinational corporations and military industrial complex and neo-cons like Bill Kristol and his New American Century. The GOP knows that all they have to do is say that they are anti-abortion and prolifers will vote for their candidates, even if they are not particularly motivated to make it a priority. And this will remain the case until Prolife voters make it clear to the GOP that their votes cannot be taken for granted.
