Welcome to Spokane! St. Al's is a majestic church -- stunningly beautiful! I love going to Mass there. The high altar is still intact, and stands in full baroque splendor. Thanks for sharing the beauty of the church with us.

Cheers!

That is such a lovely looking church. What is it like inside?

The church is majestic -- it largely escaped "wreckovation" after Vatican II. Stained class windows are massive and depict scenes out of the Bible; high altar is fully baroque. There is a massive organ in the loft. It looks like what a Catholic church should look like!

And Kelly, you absolutely should come over to eastern Washington. This is a beautiful part of the country, and much preferrable to the west-side weather-wise. 280 days of sunshine a year, on average (although today is not one of those days, drat!). Plus: less socialism!

Ah Kirk ------- did you not see the pictures of the high altar? I'll find a picture of the back just for you...

Mark - Their getting ready to start a capital campaign for "renovations". I think they mean just repairs and such. Dear God - I hope they don't intend to destroy it.

Kelly - I would love to meet you in the flesh. Plan for May - great month!

Adrienne-

I bet May is a good month to come. I seem to remember hearing something about a Lilac festival (my very favorite flower). I have been thinking about going to Spokane for a visit ever since the last time I was there.... driving thru on a cold October morning when I first came to Washington in 1995! I think I need to make it happen in the next year for sure!
