Any town that can produce P.J. O'Rourke, Gloria Steinam, Katie Holmes, Samuale "Golden Rule" Jones, Jamie Farr, Danny Thomas AND ASimpleSinner is a town worth exploring.
Since my dad is looking for work himself these days, I am encouraging him to run for Mayor next year.
I also forgot the Playboy playmate Cynthia Meyers the 1960s that my dad fondly tells people "sat next to me in geometry"... As well as "Red River Rock" music sensation "Johnny and the Hurricanes" and Gene Kranz (mission controller of NASA who oversaw the Apollo 13 mission), Anita Baker, and Scott Shriner - bassist of the rock band Weezer.
Truly a land of milk, honey, and the common genius!
One of the writers of "That 70s show" grew up in the Point Place neighborhood of Toledo (as did some lesser known bloggers) and used it as the inspiration of the fictional Wisconsin town of "Point Place, WI" in the program.
Well, the Left is now trying to destroy Joe the Plummer, so we are getting a picture of exactly how those who dare criticize The One will be treated if the Democrats get complete control of the federal government.
Yep! Toledo is the place to be. I met a lady at the library yesterday who used to live in Dayton. She said she would go back to Ohio in a heart beat....
I love Toledo -- a place of genuine art and beauty, as Jeffrey has shown so well. BUT:
Think carefully before you leap from a beautiful Idaho garden. Most people think the weather in Toledo sucks. Yes, iit is warmer than Idaho in the winter, and cooler in the summer. Yes, the lake is nice, but it does dump extra snow in the winter and is a bear to control the pollution. A strong west wind can empty Maumee Bay; contrarywise, a strong east wind will flood Point Place. And the town has been an economic disaster area since 1929.
I do pull my little house back there whenever I can. But I was born and raised there, find the slow genteely impoverished atmosphere restful, long ago learned to love the water, and love fresh freshwater fish, even on Fridays. You are a different person from either Jeffrey or myself. So look before you leap.
Irene - somehow you've gotten the idea that I just operate on emotion and have no idea of what I'm doing. I probably know more about Toldedo than the average life-long Toledo resident. I condsider myself to be the research queen....LOL
As to being a different person than you or Jeffrey? Well, of course I am. We are all different and unique.
That being said - you really don't know much about me at all. That's the thing about blogging. We only get to see what each person decides to reveal. I reveal very little of who I am, where I have been, what I have done, or even what I am thinking. Why? Because I figure it's of no real interest to others and I'm much more interested in them than they could ever be of me.

Well it is becoming clear that I am not smart or pretty enough to live in Toledo.
Teresa Brewer?? Uncle Jim - you're showing your age. Talk about a blast from the past.
Johnny and the Hurricanes - oh yea - I remember them. Tells you how old I am.... Eeeeek!!
Don't forget Art Tatum, Tom Scholz of Boston, and Uncle Jim....
Well, the Left is now trying to destroy Joe the Plummer, so we are getting a picture of exactly how those who dare criticize The One will be treated if the Democrats get complete control of the federal government.
