First, I am requesting prayers for the speedy recovery of Jeffrey Smith (blogs: Catholic Architecture and History, the Medievalist, and many others).

Secondly, I have to place it on record that I am opposed to abortion.

Thirdly, please meditate prayerfully on the relationship between religion and politics. Politics is entirely secular, no matter what any politican claims. As such, it is completely incompatible with religion. Therefore, no religion/church/believer dare permit itself/himself to be coopted by any political entity.

If your beliefs permit you to vote in a particular contest, then make your choices with all your faculties, and with plentiful prayer. Paranoia is adaptive, a good thing. Remember that no secular entity tells the truth, much less the whole truth.

Maybe I'm only showing my age... but it's possible I still retain some of my faculties.

Do consider http://www.romeofthewest.com/ for 23 and 26 September -- another conservative author.

Irene,

I don't agree with your thoughts here. I have noticed that you suggest to fellow bloggers( including myself) what they should include in their blog, and not include in their blog.

Why then Irene is your very own blog called Trailer Trash? Just wondering why it's not called The Moral Catholic, or The Early Church Fathers blog etc... As you do like to quote them alot.

Also, this election is not just about secular politics. A fundamental and critical issue is at stake; and that is the right to life for the unborn.

The Obama-Biden ticket is clearly a pro-death ticket. One horrendous example is that babies that are born in botched Abortions are not even give the dignity to decent medical care and this is highly supported by Obama and friends.

A Catholic individual in good standing with the church could not find any possible reason to vote for these pro-death candidates.

Therefore, whether we like the Republican party or not the McCain-Palin ticket is the most pro-life choice of candidates available. And therefore we must stand up for LIFE!

Irene, we live in America. We live in a democracy. We vote. We are American, we talk politics.

Jesus isn't asking us to live in a bubble. We must stand up for LIfe in the way we best see fit.

For me blogging is a great way to reach people and help them undertand the LIFE issues better.

Adrienne has a right to thoughtfully blog about political issues that effect our country. I respect her courage to do so and to use her time effectively by helping to save babies from a cruel death.

The right to LIFE of an UNBORN CHILD is important and crucial. As Catholics we need to be doing everything in our power to help prevent the horrors of Abortion.

Blogging about the candidates informs people about choices.

I suggest that you visit Father Frank Pavone's website and read up on the issues. Study carefully what Father Pavone recommends to the Catholic laity. Meditate and Pray on this!

Irene, I don't know where you will be on November 4th but I will be casting my vote for candidates who will stand up for the LIFE OF THE UNBORN.

God Bless!

For all Christians, there is no division between secular and sacred; the secular is subsumed into the sacred. This includes the political concerns of our culture, and our participation in them, as we seek to shape society in a way that glorifies God and provides safety for all.

As of now, this culture has more in common with the pagan Roman Empire than with the America our grandparents knew.

If Barry Obama wins, may God have mercy on us.
