A Catholic Contest

Since rearranging my prayer space I started thinking about all the religious pictures, crucifixes, palm branches, and holy water fonts in my house. I think it would be fun to have a contest over who has the most Catholic "stuff" in their house. Books are not included in the count. Rosaries count if they are on display or visible at all times (like on a shelf or tabletop)

You may email me with your total or put it in the combox. I'm not even sure what the winner will win but I promise it will be cool.
Even though I can't win my own contest I will start off by giving my count. Ready?

  1. Crucifixes - 9
  2. Statues - 10
  3. Pictures - 14
  4. Holy Water Fonts - 2 plus a large bottle of Holy Water for refilling fonts.
  5. Rosaries - 4 (on display)

I'm sure I've skipped some stuff ........LOL

Not fair. My house is only 23' long x 7.5' wide. I have to keep nearly all my "stuff" on my hard drive. But do have a triptych (of the nativity), a rather large Italian statue of St. Francis, a small pewter creche (advent-Christmas-epiphany, my copper and enamel pectoral crucifix, and of course my rose quartz double-cage wire-wrapped Rosary.

Now if you inventoried my hard drive, it would be unfair in the other direction.

Thank you for posting on Catholicism.

I'm totally out of the running here...

Rosary on display: 1
Crucifix: 1

However, each of the bedrooms (4) have a cross (not a crucifix) on the wall above the bed.

I also have four rosary's. One that had been my Grampa's and Two that had been my Grandmother's and a plasticy blue one from when hubby went through RCIA.

Can't compete. The Vatican wins every time.

When I have more time I will do this. I have too much Catholic stuff all over the house! But I agree with R & J :-)

Hmm, let's see...

Crucifixes on display: 4, plus one small one that is waiting to go on display when I get my new shelf situated.

Crosses on display: 2, one of them an RCIA cross. Wait, make that 3...I forgot about my new pewter cross with the Act of Contrition on it...

Saint pictures: 1 of St. Edith Stein, 1 of Blessed Mother Teresa, 1 of St. Katharine Drexel, and 1 of St. Maximilian Kolbe. Oh - plus an icon of the Blessed Mother, a picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and a print of a Velazquez painting that depicts the woman in Revelation (and we all know who SHE is...:-)).

Pictures of Jesus: 1 Divine Mercy and 2 Pantokrators, plus a rosary box with the Pantokrator on it. And my christening cup, which can't be TOO Catholic considering it was bought by my Congregationalist grandparents...

I also have a kitchen Madonna plaque with a poem on it...

...plus palms behind the kitchen crucifix and the living room cross...

...a creche for Advent/Christmas...

...oh - and a bottle of holy water. :-) (My fiancé is leery of holy water fonts in homes, both as a matter of taste and out of concern that the cats will decide that holy water tastes MUCH better than the water they are provided that is so much easier to reach.)

In my car I have an Our Lady of Guadalupe statue and an abacus rosary. In my office at work I have two Divine Mercy pictures, pictures of two of my favorite saints (Edith Stein and Francis de Sales), a crucifix, a small bust of the Blessed Mother, a picture of the Pope, and an Our Lady of Guadalupe holy water bottle.

I do think that if Irene doesn't win, she should get some kind of honorable mention for having so much in such a small living space.

Thanx, Kasia.

I also forgot -- 3 icons (miniatures)

I'm way down at the bottom of the heap somewhere.

Crucifixes--1 (on display. 2 others, not out.)
Rosaries--1 on display. Another is in a Rosary Box with a bas relief of Pope Benedict on it, in full view on the living room table (box was a gift from my son's visit to Rome last year). That ought to count for something!
Catholic Calendars--1
Statues--4
Pictures--0
Holy Water font--0
(1 holy water bottle, not empty, but buried under the papers on my desk.)

Pitiful!

Now, if you had allowed me to count books . . .

Adrienne,

Here is my count:

Crucifixes 6

Statues 13

Rosaries on display 3

Pictures 41

Catholic Calendars on the wall 4

Holy Water Font 1

bottles of holy water 2

blessed salt 1

Icon 1

Blessed Candles 4

Nativity Sets (on display) 2

Jesus Clock 1

I have a lot of my stuff put away as it was getting so cluttered here. People love to give me religious gifts for special occasions and I love it!

Now if I could just count my books...

Jean - it doesn't look you'll need to count your books to win.

41 pictures????????? Oh my - I am impressed:)

This looks like fun! I have 7 crucifixes, 9 statues, 18 pictures, 1 holy water font, 1 rosary on display, and 2 scapulars on display. I'm posting from work, so maybe I have more in actual numbers, but that is what I can picture at the moment.

Angela - Kasia is at the Clam Rampant http://clamrampant.blogspot.com/

...........but - we're all in trouble since Jean weighed in with her total.

I've just done an inventory in the new, smaller abode and there's more here than I thought:

Crucifixes - 3
Rosaries on display - (2 + a chaplet)
Statues - 5
Pictures - 9
Miscellaneous - do presents from nuns count? (we have a conch shell from an Indian nun with "God is Love" etched into it and a shamrock soap dish from an Irish nun), there are also 2 containers of Lourdes water, a pewter wall hanging of the Holy Spirit, a Catholic calendar with feast days and a memorial card of the priest who married us.

OK, my entry:

And 2 Holy Cards on Display..one at my "St. Anthony" shrine, the other of St. Faustina at Divine Mercy. :-)

Adoro said...

Oh, yeah and I have 3 scapulars visible as well.

My house is like the "Where's Waldo" of Catholicism! LOL!

Statues: 2

I still have my blessed palm from Palm Sunday out. Will that count?
Rosary boxes: 2 (rosaries are inside but the boxes are obvious on my dresser with the Virgin on the box top. I can't leave the Rosaries out, my cats will eat them)
Holy Cards (that are out on display): 3 (2 of them are from Adoro of Padre Pio)

Cathy_of_Alex said...

Oh, and I can testify to Adoro's Catholic House. She's got it goin' on. More than could possibly be counted.
